"It's 'pull a blinder,' Evan. Your cousin Cat married a Brit, so why don't you know all the slang yet?"

"Because I am not married to Alex Thorne." Evan rolls his eyes. "Thank heavens for that."

I raise my hand. "Um, what is a blinder?"

On the computer screen, Grey grins. "It means I accomplished something bloody amazing without any cock-ups."

"In that case, congratulations."

"Thanks, Rebecca." Grey puckers his lips and raises his brows. "I notice that none of you blokes had enough manners to congratulate me."

He's being sarcastic, of course. But the boys lavish phony praise on Grey, which makes him laugh.

Thane sits down in the desk chair. "You can go now, Grey. I'm grateful for all your help, but the new program will take over now. You must have other things to do."

"Good luck, mate. Ring me if you need anything else."

He waves goodbye, then his video feed cuts off.

Thane glances up at Evan. "You can go home too. Keely and Joy must be anxious to have you back and vice versa."

"Aye, I miss them already." Evan pats Thane's shoulder and nods to me. "Remember, Errol is still prowling around out there with his land mines."

With that, Evan strides out of the house. A moment later, I hear a car engine starting up, followed by the crunching of gravel.

Thane rises and gestures toward the chair. "Sit down here, grĂ idh. I'll go check on Errol and try to talk him into going home. Ashley must want her husband back. The lass is pregnant, after all."

"I haven't met Ashley yet. Or hardly any of your family or friends."

He bends over to kiss my cheek. "I will remedy that situation soon. And I'd like to meet your children too."

"Yeah, I'd love to introduce you to them."

Thane ambles out of the house while whistling a cheerful tune.

He can't be that happy just because I offered to introduce him to my kids. When I think about meeting his family, I feel a mixture of excitement and anxiety. What if they don't like me?

Oh, for pity's sake. I'm a grown woman. I can handle meeting my boyfriend's family. It does feel a little weird to call a mature, middle-aged man my boyfriend, though.

Out of the corner of my eye, I notice Thane standing outside the living room window. "Go home, Errol, ye bampot. I can protect my home and my woman without your barmy devices."

"All right, all right. I'll go. But if you need my land mines, just give me a ring."

Errol walks past Thane, who follows him out to the front yard. Soon, another car starts up and drives away.

Thane clomps up the porch steps and pushes the door open. He takes one step across the threshold before the sound of yet another car engine becomes audible. It's coming this way, not heading down the road, away from the house.

I can't see around Thane, whose body blocks the doorway. But his brows crinkle, and his jaw drops.

"What's wrong?" I ask as I hustle over to him. Still, all I can see is the little car that just pulled into the driveway beside Thane's pickup truck. A figure sits in the driver's seat, though I can't tell if it's a man or a woman.

Thane urges me to back away from the door. "Wait here. Please."

I nod my agreement.

He marches out the door and slams it shut. Then I hear his boots clomping down the steps.

A car door slams shut.
