I might stink at pronouncing Gaelic, but I have mastered every way to get Thane so turned on that he'll growl and fuck me on every surface in my apartment. Next time, we'll do that in his house. Thane suggested it. He told me he has a large bed and several bottles of his whisky on hand, not to mention a box of candy he'd ordered from his British friend, Hugh Parrish, who owns a company called Sommerleigh Sweets.

As I flop back down on my chair, I nab a candy from that box. Turns out Thane had bought two boxes of Hugh's candies, and he gave one to me. Now, I stuff a chocolate pecan truffle into my mouth. Mm, this is the best chocolate I've ever eaten.

Three crisp knocks resound from my office door.

"Come in," I call out. My words are slightly muffled thanks to the candy I'm still devouring.

As the door swings open, I whirl my chair around.

Thane shuts the door and halts halfway to me. He shoves a hand into his pants pocket, cocking his hip. "Ready for lunch, gràidh? Or are you so engrossed in your music that you don't care about food?" He peers around me. "Then again, maybe you're too full of sweets."

"I'm having an appetizer."

He cups a hand over his ear. "What did you say? I can't hear it through the sound of you gnawing on that chocolate."

I swallow the last of the truffle and lick my lips clean. "Sorry. I got hungry, so I decided to eat a couple of Hugh's candies to tide me over."

Thane strides up to me, grasps my chair's arms, and crushes his mouth to mine. I can't help it. I slump in my chair and moan while he thrusts his tongue between my lips and consumes me. By the time he pulls away, I feel like I've just taken a Valium pill. Somehow, Thane can make me feel relaxed and aroused at the same time.

He straightens. "I'd like to take you out to lunch today. There's a café in Loch Fairbairn that's quite good."

"Isn't Loch Fairbairn half an hour away? It would take our whole lunch break just to go there and back."

"One of the benefits of dating your boss is that you can take extra time off and no one will dare complain."

I wag a finger at him. "We agreed that you wouldn't treat me differently at work. If everyone else only gets an hour for lunch, that's what I should get too."

Thane smirks. "I was having you on, Rebecca. You will not receive special treatment. I've told everyone to take two hours for lunch today because they work so bloody hard and deserve the extra hour."

"Oh. Well, that's okay, then."

He offers me his hand. "Shall we go?"

Only now have I noticed that he's wearing a wool coat. My brain doesn't run on all cylinders when I'm in the vicinity of Thane Buchanan. I accept his hand, and he helps me get my own wool coat on. During my first week at work here, I realized I needed to dress for the Scottish weather instead of dressing like I work at a big corporation. Today, I chose a nice-looking pair of jeans that have a flannel lining, along with warm winter boots that Thane helped me pick out during our weekend together. He also insisted I should buy thicker socks and some sweaters too.

He sweeps his gaze over me. "You make winter clothing look sexy."

"So do you. Are those your flannel-lined pants?"

"Aye. They're a necessity in the Highlands this time of year."

"That's for sure. I've learned a lot about winter clothing since I moved to Scotland. Can't believe I showed up on my first day dressed like a CEO, with high heels and everything."

He clasps my hand as we walk out of my office. "Dinnae feel bad, lass. I suffered from the same problem when I was in Egypt. Had no idea how to dress my first time there."

We've gone halfway down the long hallway, heading toward the exit, but I suddenly stop dead, unable to move a single muscle except to veer my gaze to him. "You've been to Egypt? I've always wanted to go there."

He freezes. His expression goes blank, though only for a couple of seconds. Then he scrunches up his face and hisses, "Mhac na galla."

Thane is cursing---at himself, clearly. But why?

He groans and shoves a hand through his hair. "I shouldn't have mentioned that. Cannae tell you why. I'm sorry."

"I understand. You warned me from the start there would be things you couldn't tell me."

He gives me a grateful, if small, smile. "You are very understanding. I appreciate that."

"Let's forget about all of that and go to lunch."
