“Use one of those keycards I gave you at the elevators,” came Kozien’s voice again. “It has a chip that is registered to my name. It’ll let you access the elevator.”

Moving in between the desks, they both headed over to the elevators. Gianna brushed her hand over her pocket, feeling the keycards that Kozien had given them before getting off the ship clink together in her pocket.

She pulled one out, the gold glinting in the light overhanging the elevator door. She waved it over the panel, sighing in relief when the doors popped open to let them inside. She stuffed the keycard back into her pocket and stepped in. The panel had only one button to push.

Once the doors closed, Gabe turned to her.

“So… you and Kozien…”

She bit the inside of her cheek, thankful the bug in her ear was only one way unless she pressed on it to talk.

“What about it?”

“What’s up with that?”

She leaned back against the metal wall, feeling them descend farther and farther into the basement of the bank. “I… have feelings for him.”

Gabe snorted. “Yeah. Clearly.”

She blushed, shoving him. “Will you knock it off?”

He ignored her, pressing on. “Didn’t look like just feelings to me, Gia.”

She groaned. “What do you want me to say? That I’m in love with him?”

Gabe turned to face her fully. “Are you?”

Just then the elevator slowed and the doors popped open.

Gianna quickly stepped out onto the basement floor, her eyes widening.

Lining as far as the eye could see and as tall as the basement ceiling were safety deposit lockers.

“Holy shit…” Gabe breathed out.

“Seriously.” She pressed her bug. “We’re down here.”

“Great. You should see a podium with a panel on it that you can walk up to.”

Spotting it just a few feet from them, Gianna walked over to it and tapped the screen.

“Hold both keycards over it, and it’ll spit out a tracker. That’ll lead you to my box.”

Gianna shoved her hands into her pocket and pulled out both keys. She waved them over the panel. The screen lit up, a bunch of information displaying on it that was small and hard to read. It flashed away quickly before a small coaster-like object was ejected from the top of the panel.

“What’s that?” Gabe asked, grabbing it.

“Tracker. It’ll show us where the box is.”

It vibrated in Gabe’s hand, lighting up red for a solid second before going dark and displaying a single arrow pointing ahead like a compass.

Gabe looked at her, shrugging. “Guess we follow it.”

Gianna let Gabe lead the way, the tracker making them wander for what felt like hours. Of course, Kozien’s box couldn’t be somewhere in the front, making all of their lives easier.

No. It was probably somewhere in the very back and would take her and Gabe an entire day to get to.

Gianna shook her head, seeing the lockers continue to stretch on and on with no end in sight.
