“Is that a challenge?”

“Maybe it is.” A grin appears on his face. He really is challenging me. Okay. Guess we’ll just have to see.

Footsteps start to get louder, and I turn my head to see Aurora approaching us with two small bags in her hands.

“I’m back. I hope you weren’t talking behind my back,” she announces, sitting back down next to me.

“Yes, we were talking about how addicted you are to someone you’ve never met,” he teases. Aurora frowns. Jokes on him, she actually has met her idol.

“You don’t get a cookie,” she tells him, rotating her body and handing me one of the white paper bags.

“You don’t need to,” I assure her.

“I know, but I’m going to just so I can offend Elias,” she explains.

“Well, in that case, I’ll take it,” I say, taking the bag from her hand. I catch Elias throwing his head back, a smile beaming on his face.

Let’s see if you prove me wrong, Elias. I’m waiting for the day you do.

Chapter 10 – Settantacinque

Val

The weekend passed by fast, and Lorenzo and I found time to hang out. The rest of the time I was either working on my media presence or with Ellie. She often tells me she feels lonely, so I try to make as much time for her, but it’s hard with my work commitments, and even harder now with school. I still do what I can. When I find free time, I hang out with her. We don’t go out much, either, to maintain secrecy. I don’t want her to have to go through all the consequences of my fame. I also don’t want her to be connected to someone as famous as me. Though many celebrities have relatives who are also in the public eye, it’s dangerous. I’m young, making me an easier target, and she’s even younger I also don’t want to risk it. I would die if anything happened to Ellie. I don’t think she knows how much I would sacrifice for her.

She understands, thankfully. She knows my career is hard, and she supports me. I’m both her sister and her idol. However, that doesn’t stop her from annoying me from time to time.

Monday comes, and I wake up early again. My sleep schedule is beyond repair, so I just deal with it. I get ready and walk to school. Black clouds cover the sky, darkening the atmosphere, and my hair blows with the current. Well, my wig. I enter through the main door of the school, finding it almost empty. I look down at my phone; it’s thirty minutes before the bell. I need to stop getting here so early.

I go upstairs and onto the second floor, striding the halls. The colors of the lockers are based on the floor they are on. Here on the second floor, all the lockers are a grayish-blue. My locker isn’t in the main hall of the second floor, and it takes a couple of turns to get to it. As I continue to walk to it, I spot Elias. He’s placing things into an open locker, which I’m guessing is his. I frown, forgetting that he also gets here early. Maybe I can just turn around and come back later. I turn back to walk in the other direction before I hear the metal door slamming closed.

“Violet. You’re here early.” He calls out after me. I wish I wasn’t. I turn around slowly to look at him, letting a soft smile take over my mouth.

“Yeah. Couldn’t sleep,” I answer vaguely. “You? Is Lorenzo not here with you today?”

“He said he’s going to be late. I’m used to being alone this early anyway,” he replies. So, he’s always here early? Nice to know. I’ll make sure to note that, so I don’t come to school early.

As he’s already seen me, I know there is no point in trying to run away, so I walk toward him. Might as well try to prove my intuition wrong. “So, why are you always here early, anyway? I’m guessing you don’t have extra classes or friends, since you’re standing here alone.” I point out.

He presses his lips together before answering. “My parents. My dad, in particular. He’s strict, doesn’t trust me to go to school alone. So, since they both go to work early, they drop me off nearly an hour before school starts.”

I smile, standing not too far away from him. “He doesn’t trust you?” I ask, raising my eyebrows.

“He thinks I’m too open. He doesn’t want me near specific things or people and doesn’t trust that I won’t be. You know, he’s too into being rich and always wants to make sure everything I do is fitting of the status.” he explains. Hearing how shitty of a human Roland is will become the best thing about Elias attending this school. Not that anyone should have a bad father, but Roland being one is hypocritical. Though, Elias obviously doesn’t deserve it.

That sounds very mean, but no one really understands as my mom and I do. Roland had his own words thrown at us; except he actually said them out loud, and they actually affected us. What I say about him is something anyone would expect if they knew the shit he pulled. Even Elias himself, if he’s as good as Lorenzo states.

“Sounds dumb. So, what, you can’t hang out with me?” I ask him, trying to shut my thoughts out.

“I don’t know. I expect I’m not.” That’s even dumber. I twist my body so that my back is resting against the row of lockers and cross my arms, keeping my head turned to look at him.

“Well, I might just have to start hanging out with you more often,” I joke. He laughs, scrunching his eyebrows slightly.

“I though you didn’t like me,” he says, his eyebrows raised.

“I don’t trust you, I thought we made that clear. And regardless, I don’t like Roland even more,” I nod my head.

Aurora then appears, running when she spots us. Her medium-length brown hair flows behind her. I honestly won’t lie, medium hair with curtain bangs suits her. She stops in frontof us, panting. “I don’t get it. I come early today, and you’re both still here before me. Why are you so early these days? I’m going to miss out on drama,” she rants. I let out a short laugh. Elias raises his eyebrows at her, giving her an offended look. “What, you can’t tell me you haven’t talked about anyone.”
