“Never. But I want to keep you safe, so be sensible.”

“Isn’t the contest over though? Surely I’m safe now.”

Kaiden gives me a look that clearly screams he thinks I’m being a naive idiot, and I have to hold back a sigh. Right, because their lives are fraught with danger, and all I’ve done is step further into their dark underworld. We’ve swapped campus drama for real danger, and I get the feeling shit’s about to getreallyreal.

Fun.

“Right, I’ll be careful,” I promise. “But keep that dickhead away from me.”

“Absolutely. Right, well, if I don’t see you before, I’ll grab you on Friday for the DNA testing, okay? I’ll drop some of your things off later, but I won’t disturb you.”

I nod and give him a wave, then take myself and the bag full of chocolate inside.

Even walking past the door to my old dorm flat makes me shudder. I can’t face going in there, let alone to my old room. I wonder if they’ve cleared it out yet? Cleaned the blood off the walls?

I take the stairs up to the girls’ shared flat and knock on the door. Lou grins at me as she swings the door wide and pulls me into a hug.

“Phew. Shower?”

“Huh?”

“Do you want a shower?”

“Umm…that would be great actually. But, why?”

“Girl, you stink of sex. I can only imagine whatshit’s gone down.” She winks at me.

“Yeah, yeah.” I shake my head and hold up the bag of goodies. “I brought chocolate.”

“You’re a lifesaver. Let’s get some of this into Lucy before she kills someone. Where’s your stuff?”

“Umm, Kaiden will drop it off later. We’ve not been back to the flat, and I didn’t want to risk…well, anyway. Yeah. He said he’d swing by.”

“No worries. Come on then.”

“Thanks. So what’s everyone’s plans for the weekend?”

I follow Lou into the flat and wave at Jess and Steph as we pass the communal kitchen, dining and sitting area. Lou leads me straight to her room, which I’ve been to a couple of times, and flops down on her bed. I join her, sitting cross legged and waiting for a response.

“Well, we were going to go to Trinity’s tonight, but everyone’s still a bit bruised and sore from the bomb.”

I grimace.

“So we’re going to do a movie marathon and have a bit of down time, if that’s okay?”

I think over Kaiden’s words and my promise to him to stay on campus. “That sounds perfect actually. I only just heard that people died in the blast. You guys were so lucky.”

“Yeah. It was lucky Lucy got that text to be honest. Even though the bomb went off on the other side of the stadium. Most injuries were from the crowd panicking. How’s Heracles doing now?”

“Huh?”

“Sorry, I thought he was a friend of yours.”

“Hector?”

“Yeah. The gym guy.”

“What do you mean how’s he doing?”
