“Wanna talk about it?” he asks when we’re both done.

I shake my head but open my mouth anyway. I need to ask the one question that’s on my mind. The one where the answer could change everything between us.

“Did you know?”

“I didn’t.” He hesitates.

“But?” I demand, heart leaping into my throat.

“It’s not my story to tell, babygirl. You need to speak to Axel.”

I scowl. “I don’t want to talk to that asshole. For all I know, he bled out last night.”

“He didn’t. It was just a flesh wound. He’s okay.”

I hate how relieved I feel at Kaiden’s words, so I force a nonchalant shrug. “I don’t care.”

“Fair enough. What do you want to do today?”

“Do we have to go back?”

“Nope.”

“Doyouhave to go back?”

Kaiden grins at me. “No. Consider me at your beck and call for the next however many hours.”

I’ve always been a sucker for Kaiden’s easy, teasing humour, but right now I need to be serious.

“I don’t want to go back to the flat, Kaiden. Please don’t make me.”

“I won’t force you to do anything you don’t want to do babygirl. Except…doesn’t matter.”

“No, what? Tell me?”

“Axel called. We have to go do the DNA test on Friday.”

I refuse to process that now. “That’s almost a whole week away. Can we stay here until then?”

He grimaces. “Probably not ideal.”

“Is there anywhere else we can go?”

“Together? No. But what about staying with one of the girls? Have you spoken to them at all?”

“Shit! No. I’ve not seen or heard from them since we were at the game.” Blood rushes away from my face. “I don’t even know if they’re okay. I’m a horrible friend.”

“Hush. No, you’re not. You’ve had a lot going on.”

“Nothing so serious as to excuse me not even checking in on them. What if something’s happened to one of them?”

“It hasn’t.”

“How can you be so sure?”

“Only eight people died in the bomb blast, and a couple dozen were seriously injured. Everything else was minor and superficial. If it was one of your friends, we would know.”

“Because The Holy Trinity knows everything, right?” My tone is pissed off and bitter. “Even when there’s a bomb about to go off in a sports stadium.”
