“How do you know she’s in Deathfalls?” Zie asks. Kaiden smirks. “You put a tracker in her necklace didn’t you?”

I scoff. “Please, as if I’d do anything so fucking amateur.”

“In the wedding ring then? You knew she’d never take that off.”

I shake my head, exasperated. Why won’t he just let it go?

“It’s not important,” I say evasively. Kaiden snorts and Zie’s eyes narrow.

“Enough of this keeping me in the dark shit! Kaiden obviously knows something I don’t, so tell me!”

I swear it’s like having two unruly toddlers to contend with. If one’s not whining, the other’s whinging. It’s giving me a fucking migraine.

“Kaiden doesn’tknowshit. He just has a theory.”

“Fine,” Zie huffs, turning to glare at Kaiden. “Let’s hear it then.”

“He had her microchipped,” Kaiden replies smugly, making my jaw drop.

How did that fucker guess?

“What?” Zie cries. “Like a dog?”

I shrug. Potato. Tomato. They don’t rhyme by the way.

“Odi is going to kill you when she finds out,” Zie growls.

“She isn’t going to find out,” I tell him.

“But you said no more lies.”

“It’s not a lie. It’s an omission,” I correct him.

“Check the small print,” Kaiden says with a laugh. “Storm Odi won’t see it that way.”

“Well, as she’s never going to know, it’s irrelevant anyway!” I snap back. Fuck, have four walls ever felt so small? So confining. At this point I’d take a coffin over a chapel with these two. At least its solitary and I’ll get a moment of peace. “Not all secrets between a husband and wife need to be revealed.”

Zie shakes his head, a mix of disbelief and disappointment etched on his face. “You’re treading on dangerous ground, Axel. Keeping secrets from Odi won’t end well for any of us.”

A heavy silence descends upon us, the weight of our unspoken fears and doubts hanging in the air. The truth resonates in Zie’s words; I know deep down that I cannot keep Odi in the dark forever. But the thought of her anger and disappointment pierces my heart, cutting through the façade I’ve built meticulously over the years.

Kaiden breaks the silence. “I get that you’re trying to protect her, but keeping her in the dark isn’t the answer. Odi is strong, she can handle the truth, no matter how difficult it may be.”

I clench my fists, frustration bubbling within me like a tempest ready to break free. They just don’t understand; theyhaven’t been through what I have with Odi – a lifetime of love intertwined with pain and sacrifice. But maybe Kaiden is right. Maybe it’s time to trust her with the truth.

“Fine,” I concede begrudgingly, my voice heavy with reluctance. “But promise me this stays between us until I find the right time.”

Zie nods solemnly, his eyes searching mine for any sign of doubt or uncertainty. “We’ll keep your secret for now.”

“Ugh. I can’t stand this any longer!” Kaiden exclaims suddenly, pacing the small space. “I need to get out of here.”

I turn to Zie, ignoring Kaiden’s childish outburst. “Zie, text your mum. Tell her to bring Rose over from the cottage. I think it’s time. Odi will be back tonight and then she should come looking for us.”

“What if she doesn’t?” he asks, frowning.

“She will,” Kaiden huffs, before storming out of the chapel.

Fuck’s sake. He’s going to risk ruining everything just so he an stretch his fucking legs a bit? Moron.
