“What?” he asks, sounding completely, infuriatingly, at ease with this whole situation.

“I’m not dressed for this…whatever this is!”

“You’re wearing a white dress. I’d say you’re good to go,” he quips.

My eyes widen. “Axel, what?—”

“You think you’re inappropriately dressed, princess? I’m getting married injeans,” he says with a shudder.

I gasp. “We’re getting married…now?”

“Yes, my dear,” the man –priest, I guess? –dressed in robes replies, his lips curling into a friendly smile. “Now is the perfect time for your official union.”

My heart races, panic coursing through my veins. This wasn’t how I imagined my wedding day…night.

Axel senses my distress and takes my hand reassuringly. “We didn’t expect it to be like this either, but love isn’t bound by circumstances or expectations,” he whispers. “Plan B, remember?”

As his words sink in, a strange calm washes over me. Love is what truly matters, not the grandeur of a wedding. If this unconventional setting is where our love can best blossom, then so be it. Axel always has his reasons; I just need to trust him.

I take a deep breath and look into Axel’s eyes, finding nothing but sincerity and devotion reflected back at me.

Then it hits me:this isn’t for show. This isn’t some bullshit caveat of the Hunting Grounds, or his father insisting we marry for his own ridiculous agenda. We’re here tonight because for whatever additional reasons and dangers there may be, Axelwantsto marry me.

The realisation makes my heart swell.

Turning to the man in robes, I offer him a small smile. “Thank you for welcoming us here tonight. I hope my husband-to-be is paying you handsomely for this overtime.”

He throws his head back and laughs, before becoming serious once more.

“Oh I like her. Yes, she’ll make a perfect wife for you.” He nods solemnly, as if he knows more than he lets on. “Love always finds its way, even in the most extraordinary of circumstances.”

With his words echoing in my mind, Axel and I step forward, ready to embark on this unexpected journey together. The man begins the ceremony with ancient incantations and blessings, binding our souls as we exchange vows that come straight from our hearts.

Once the vows are done, I expect the rings to come next, but the priest turns to Kaiden and begins the same spiel all over again.

Frowning, I turn to Axel. “Umm, what’s going on?”

“You need to say your wedding vows to Kaiden,” he replies, his eyes shining with mirth.

“But, I just said them to you,” I point out, cocking my head to the side in confusion.

Axel nods. “Yes, and then it will be Zie’s turn.”

Zie’s turn? My mind races as I try to make sense of Axel’s words. Why would I have to say my wedding vows to Kaiden and Zie? Confusion and a tinge of fear swirl within me, but Axel’s calm demeanour reassures me.

I take a deep breath, gathering my thoughts. If love can blossom in the most extraordinary circumstances, as the priest said, then perhaps there is more to this than meets the eye. I trust Axel, after all, and there’s no denying that I love Kaiden and Zie too. Didn’t I wish, more than once, that I would never have to choose between them all?

With renewed determination, I turn towards Kaiden, who stands beside us with an expression of hopefulness. His eyes meet mine, silently pleading with me to give him a chance.

Summoning all the strength within me, I begin to recite my wedding vows once again. This time, my words are directed at Kaiden, pouring forth from the wellspring of my heart. I speak of friendship, trust, and a shared understanding that transcends the ordinary. He nods, understanding exactly what I’m trying to tell him, and as I finish speaking, Kaiden’s eyes shimmer with unshed tears. A tender smile curves his lips, and he takes a step closer to us. The priest raises an eyebrow but continues with the ceremony undeterred.

Now it’s Zie’s turn. I take a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying not to show how overwhelmed I am.

Zie stands before me, his blue eyes filled with a mix of uncertainty and longing, I recognise the vulnerability in his gaze, and my heart aches for him. This is not how any of us envisioned our lives intertwining, but love has a funny way of guiding us towards unexpected paths.

Acting on the surge of courage within me, I reach out and take Zie’s hand in mine, offering him a reassuring smile. Together, we have faced countless challenges and overcome them, proving that our bond is unbreakable. And now, standing here in this ethereal church, I am reminded once again that love knows no limits or boundaries.

With a gentle squeeze of Zie’s hand, I speak my vows to him. Words spill forth from my soul, expressing the depth ofmy affection and admiration. I talk about the way he constantly inspires me to be a better version of myself and the profound sense of belonging he brings into my life.
