As I look into their faces, I’m hit by a sense of love so strong and pure it overwhelms me. I can’t believe how lucky I am to have all three of them in my life, accepting of one another and willing to share in order to make me happy.

Kaiden is right, this is the best day of my life. Of our lives. I just hope it can stay this way.

Nothing. It’s been radio silence from my father for weeks… Why? I’m not foolish enough to think he’s suddenly done with me. He’s up to something. But what?

And will I survive whatever his next scheme is?

I feel like I’ve barely got my breath back when the limo is pulling to a stop outside the hotel, Zie and Kaiden are climbing out and I’m getting ready to enter the ballroom for my wedding reception. It seems crazy that when I step inside, all of the people in there will see me as a married woman.

“Are you ready, Odi?” Axel asks, squeezing my hand.

I take a deep, fortifying breath, as if strengthening myself from the inside out, and nod. “I’m ready,” I lie.

“I’m glad we had this moment.”

“To fuck?” I ask, trying to break the tension building within me with poor humour.

“To be together. All four of us.”Because it might be the last time.

He doesn’t say it, but I know that’s exactly what he means.

“What if you’ve got it wrong and they don’t do anything?” I ask, frowning. I’m clutching at straws and we both know it. Axel gives me a sad look.

“I’ve never wanted to be more wrong about anything in my life.”

“But if you are?”

“Then we get through today and move the plan up. We have to act quickly on this.”

I nod. This isn’t news; we’ve been over it multiple times this week. We’re as prepared as can be, but it’s still terrifying considering who we are going up against.

“Let’s not keep them waiting any longer,” Axel says gently, gesturing to the open door of the car.

I take one last look at Axel, his eyes displaying a mixture of determination and fear, mirroring my own emotions. With a nod, I step out of the limo, feeling a surge of adrenaline coursing through my veins.

The grand ballroom is a sight to behold, all white marble and gold accents, and adorned with intricate chandeliers and lavish decorations. The soft glow of candlelight dances upon the faces of the guests, who turn their heads in unison as we make our entrance. Whispers ripple through the room, and I can feel the weight of their expectations hanging in the air.

Zie and Kaiden take their places beside us, their presence giving me strength. Our fates are intertwined, bound by a sharedpurpose to bring down those who have wronged us. As we walk towards the centre of the ballroom, I catch glimpses of familiar faces among the crowd – friends and allies who have risked everything to stand with us.

A symphony of emotions swirls within me – nervousness, dread, nausea, and an undercurrent of danger that threatens to unravel our carefully crafted plan. But I push those thoughts aside, focusing on the task at hand. Today is not just about my wedding reception; it is a pivotal moment in our fight for justice.

Axel takes his place beside me at the head table, his gaze never leaving mine. The intensity in his eyes tells me that he is prepared for whatever may come our way. We exchange a silent understanding – stick to the plan no matter what.

As we sit down and the festivities begin, I can’t help but feel a sense of detachment from the revelry around me. The laughter and music seem distant, drowned out by the gravity of our mission. This wedding reception, meant to be a celebration of love and unity, has transformed into a battleground in my mind.

I steal a glance at Axel, his face a mask of composure that belies the turmoil within. We’ve come so far, fought against insurmountable odds, and now we stand on the precipice of it all. The truth we’ve uncovered, the secrets we’ve unearthed, will be laid bare, if we survive the night.

Kaiden sits beside me, and Zie next to Axel, their presence providing a much-needed anchor amidst the chaos. Their unwavering support gives me strength when doubt threatens to consume me. We are a united front, bound by common purpose, an unbreakable force to be reckoned with.

The first course is served, but my appetite is nonexistent. I find myself lost in a sea of heightened senses, my mind consumed by thoughts of what lies ahead. Every conversation, every interaction holds potential significance. I scan the room, searching for any signs of deception or imminent danger. Myheart pounds with each passing moment, but I refuse to allow my eyes to land uponthem.

As the main course arrives, Axel discreetly passes me a small device concealed in his hand. It’s our insurance policy, a fail-safe in case things go sideways. I slip it into the hidden pocket of my gown. It’s a reminder that we are prepared for anything.

The speeches begin, with Axel’s father getting to his feet to speak. With no father of the bride to speak on my behalf, he decides to take the role on for himself. Each word seems to me to be filled with veiled threats and grandiose promises. The room hangs on every word, but beneath their applause, I can sense their unease. They know change is coming, and they fear it.

Axel leans in closer. “We’re almost there,” he says, his breath warm against my ear. “Stay focused.” His words ground me, anchoring me amidst the chaotic storm swirling around us.

The reception progresses. I play my part – smiling and engaging in polite conversation with guests who know nothing of the storm brewing beneath the surface. But my mind is elsewhere – weighed down by the responsibility and the uncertainty of what lies ahead.
