As we walk down the stairs, the stench of death hits us like a punch to the face. The sight that greets us in the basement is a gruesome one, a vision that will be seared into our memories forever. There, in a pool of her own blood, is the body of Eowyn. Her eyes wide open, staring into the nothingness that now consumes her. It’s clear that whatever had happened to her had been painful, but she’s beyond suffering now.

Shame. Clearly at some point she fought back. Odi’s lip didn’t split itself, and if I could bring her back from the dead just to send her there all over again, I would in a heartbeat. No one hurts what’s mine.

Kaiden, Zie, and I stand there in silence, taking in the grisly scene before us. It’s a warped form of justice, but I can’t blame Odi for her actions. I would have done the same if the tables were turned. Hell, Ihavedone the same and then some.

The sight of so much bloodshed should not make my dick hard. But fuck me, this is a sight to behold. Knowing that Odi did thisfor meis a heady feeling. I feel like a king storming into battle with his queen by his side, as an equal. This just cements my certainty that making Odi The Doe was the right choice. Not only that, but the best thing I ever did.

“Fuck, she went postal on her ass,” Kaiden says, whistling his appreciation.

I smile.Yes, yes she did. That’s my girl. “Part of me doesn’t really want to clean this mess up.”

“I agree, bro,” Kaiden adds.

Zie shakes his head but I can see him struggling to hold back a smile. He’s finally okay with this: with our life; with who we are and what we do; and with knowing Odi is going to be an active part of it. She’s not going to be some quiet little stay at home wife, tied to the kitchen sink. She’s a fucking goddess. Flawless. Made to be ruling our empire with us as loyal servants at her feet.

“I’m not dealing with this on an empty stomach anyway,” I murmur. “I’ll call this one in. Let’s go eat.”

In the garage, the smell of pancakes wafts down from the kitchen, urging us to leave the basement and face the reality of what has happened. Odi has more or less taken care of everything, and now it’s time for us to move on.

“Are you okay, my love?” I ask, coming into the kitchen and pulling Odi into my arms. My eyes scan hers for any sense of panic, but there’s none.

“I’m fine,” she says dismissively. Ithinkshe is, but I have to be sure.

“Why did you do it, love?”

“She tried to hurt you!” she replies fiercely. The passion and determination to protect me is clear in her voice. It shakes with anger and righteousness and it fills my chest with warmth. No one has ever cared about me like that before, outside of my brothers. No one has ever been willing to go to these lengths for me. “She drugged you and was going to rape you. You weren’t even conscious. No one should have to go through that.” Her voice cracks at the end and I pull her against my chest, running my fingers through her dark locks.

“Shh, it’s okay,” I tell her.

”I’m not upset,” she murmurs against my shirt. “She deserved it, Axel. Seeing what she was doing to you, fearing that I was too late to save you, it changed something in me. I snapped. But I don’t regret it. A-and it felt good.”

Of course it did. Because Odi was born to be a part of our world. No, not just be a part of it, to rule it. She has darkness in her which will only consume if she doesn’t learn to harness it. And whilst my girl might be a bloodthirsty little savage, she’s not a psychopath who’s about to go round killing indiscriminately. Until now, she’s been focused on revenge against our fathers, but she’ll go to the same drastic lengths to protect us too.

Lengths which I approve of, whole heartedly.

“Thank you,” I tell her earnestly.

“You’re not mad?” she asks, blinking up at me.

“Not in the slightest. I’m proud of you,” I tell her completely truthfully.

I feel loved, and that makes me feel invincible.

“I made a mess,” she protests weakly, trying to keep the smile tugging at the corner of her lips under control.

“Messes are easily cleaned up,” I reassure her with an easy smile.

“You did amazingly, babygirl,” Kaiden praises her, pulling her from my arms. I want to growl at him for ruining the moment, but I don’t. I’m learning to share. Well, I’m trying, and judging by the way Odi smiles at me before accepting a hug from Kaiden, she sees my efforts and appreciates them.

Kaiden releases Odi and she turns to Zie, lines of apprehension marring her beautiful face. We all wait to see his reaction.

“Zie?” she asks hopefully.

He shakes his head and her face falls.

“I’m sorry Odi.”

For a split second, I want to kill him for upsetting her, but then he adds, “Clearly this was some kind of set up, and we were too out of it to notice. Cocky, thinking no one would dare touch us. We should have tried harder to stick together, and then we would have been here and none of this would have had to happen.”
