He heard her breath hitch as desire rose within him. He pulled her closer until his lips found hers. The kiss was slow and gentle, chasing away all other thoughts. She shifted closer, and the slow and gentle turned to desperate and wanting. He pushed her back against the sofa and her fingers fumbled for his belt. She pulled his zipper and found what she was looking for as he tugged his jeans lower. He was hard in her hands as she massaged his length.

Their lips parted for a moment as she sat back, sliding her shoes off and pushing down her jeans. Hunger burned in her eyes.

His mouth covered hers again as he moved between her legs, lifting her hips until he felt his cock against her opening. He held her fast as he entered her. She ground herself against him, their lips locked, their passion swallowing them whole. Waves of ecstasy started to build and she cried his name as he thrust hard inside her. Her back arched as the waves broke spectacularly for both of them.

His arms encircled her; his breath ragged against her chest. He could hear her heartbeat wild against his ear. They stayed in each other’s embrace until their breathing returned to normal. Content just to be.

‘Alex,I have to tell you something,’ she whispered against his cheek. ‘I think I found a way out. Or, it found me, I guess.’

He pulled back to look at her. ‘What do you mean?’

This was not a conversation she wanted to have naked. ‘Let’s get dressed first.’

They reached for their clothes, dressing quickly and returning to the sofa. She let the excitement resurface now. Her hands ran along his face and then dropped to her sides, clenching into fists to maintain her composure.

‘The New South Wales Police are building a case against The Devils. They will completely dismantle them. They won’t exist anymore.’

‘What?’

‘I just met with this detective—'

‘You what?’ Alex jerked back from her, alarm and suspicion extinguishing the calm.

‘He found me at a cafe. Alex, he can help us. We can stop running.’

‘How long have you been talking to the police, Sarah?’

‘What? No! Alex, he found me.’

‘So that’s what you were up to while I was looking for Jizzy? You went to the cops.’ He was on his feet and towering over her. His eyes dark with anger.

She pushed herself up from the sofa. ‘You’re not listening to me, Alex. I didn’t go to the cops. He found me.’

‘Bullshit!’

‘Alex, just listen. He wants to help. Can you just talk to him? You can give most of your evidence here and they can lock them all up - Zep, all of them - before we even get on a plane for Australia.’

‘Are you fucking kidding?’

‘Alex, please—’

‘Fuck you, Sarah. The minute my back is turned, you go to the fucking cops.’

His accusations stung. ‘That’s not what happened.’

‘I can’t believe you. I told you the cops can’t help us.’

‘Tom said—’

His eyes blazed with fury. ‘Tom? Who the fuck is Tom?’

‘Tom Nable. He’s the detective.’

Alex turned his back on her, gripping the kitchen bench. ‘You’re a liar, Sarah. A liar and a fucking hypocrite.’

‘What?’ His words struck as though he had slapped her.

‘You just sat here and told me to let you in, to stop shutting you out. And the whole time you were sneaking around with some cop. Making plans. Deciding how it's going to play out.’
