I wish I could have found a way to bring her along but I know on this occasion she would have tried to convince me to follow my parents’ orders and go to Canada.

She’s like that with anything to do with them, which is totally understandable since she works for my mother and her parents work for my father.

It’s fine. I’m just going to have to be rebellious all by myself and enjoy my drink—which I definitely am.

Even though I don’t know what I’m going to do next.

The night is young. I just don’t know what to do with it.

I’m also aware that in sitting here by myself I’m inviting all sorts of attention. Quite a few eyes followed me as I made my way in. There were guys in groups along the walls and in the surrounding booths.

They watched me closely.Intently.And with the kind of interest you’d expect when a person is hoping you’re available.

I always get attention like that wherever I go, which is not always a bad thing. I’m just not usually in the mood to do anything about it.

I’m not exactly in the mood now, but I promised myself that if I’m going to be here for a much-needed timeout I would step away from the bubble of woe I’ve been living in.

Entering this club was step one. I’ve never been to a club by myself before, so this is new and different for me.

Worst-case scenario will see me getting wasted right here in this corner of the bar before heading back to the hotel to devour everything inside the minibar.

With that reasoning, I finish off my drink.

“You should be Venus,” says a deep and sexy baritone voice right next to me. It seems to fill all the spaces inside and outside of me.

I turn and have to look up until my eyes connect with the intense greens of a man so handsome and devastatingly beautiful the blood stops flowing through my veins.

I take in the wild, black curly hair adorning his head and the razor-sharp cheekbones of his chiseled face that seem too perfect to belong to a real-life person.

As if that’s not enough, he’s Greek-god tall and has wide military-man shoulders set atop a powerful torso that looks more pronounced in the long-sleeved black T-shirt molded to his skin. I get the feeling he’s not one of those guys who purposely shows off his muscles. He’s just…huge.

Everything inside me comes to a halt the longer I stare and only starts up again when a smirk spreads across his face, setting me on fire.

He straightens, towering over me, and I have to tilt my head.

I guess him to be at least six-foot-six. At five-foot-four I’m fairy size in comparison.

His eyes roaming down my body heat me up in a scandalous way that makes me think of sinful things I shouldn’t imagine in the presence of a stranger. A seriously hot stranger I’ve just been staring at as if I’ve lost my mind.

But I must have lost it well before he walked up to me because how didn’t I seehim?

This guy looks like a cross between Henry Cavill and Michele Morrone. He also has the exotic swoonworthy charm that could melt your insides. And your brain.

How could I have been so lost thinking about foolishness that I didn’t noticehim?

And what did he say to me?

Something aboutVenus?

“I’m sorry, what did you say?” I’m thrilled I haven’t lost my ability to speak. That would be even more embarrassing than staring at him.

My handsome stranger’s smirk morphs into a full-blown smile. God in Heaven, it’s like the fabric of reality unravels and every star in the night sky realigns all in the split of a second.

“I said you should be Venus.”

I did hear him right—or partly right—but what does he mean?

“Venus? Like the planet?” I give him a narrowed stare.
