One month later

Luc and I are dining at Marea, our favorite restaurant.

It was the first place we visited after the world knew we were a couple.

That came after Luc announced me to the world by kissing me at the end of his game.

I was already wearing his hockey jersey, so there was no need to do the math when he gave me a full-on kiss right in front of a group of hungry journalists who were already waiting to take pictures of him.

Oh and he gave an interview too, making sure they knew I was his.

The next day, we were all over social media and in every tabloid newspaper.

Luc Le Blanche is dating Chronicle journalist, Autumn Jakobe.

That was my favorite headline because it told the world who I truly was and gave me value. Other headlines referred to me as, Shawn Jakobe’s daughter, the team owner’s daughter, and my least favorite was Charlotte Jakobe’s little sister.

But honestly, being referred to as Charlotte’s little sister didn’t bother me as much as it would have before.

Since the night Luc and I went public, we’ve been New York’s new favorite celeb couple. The press have gone wild, and several puck bunnies cried.

There hasn’t been a picture or article featuring Luc without me by his side. With the Cup finals only two weeks away, the press have loved us as much as they love the team’s success.

Now we’re here again dining in style with the beautiful view of Manhattan in the background.

Luc smiles at me and reaches for my hand across the table.

“You look absolutely beautiful, Venus,” he says. That’s the tenth time he’s told me that tonight.

“Thank you, Aries.”

“I have another offer for you.”

I laugh. “This will be your third offer, Luc Le Blanche.”

“I know, and I’m hoping you’ll say yes to me again.”

I’ve never told this perfect man the word no. I don’t think that will change tonight. “Okay, let’s hear it. What are we doing this time?”

“Something fun.”

“Fun sounds good.”

The first offer was the secret relationship for the duration of my sabbatical. That ended last month. The second was moving in with him at the manor where I’ve been the happiest in my life. I can’t wait to hear what this third offer will be.

“This is my best idea yet. I know we’ve moved super-fast, but I love you.”

“I love you too and you’re keeping me in suspense, mister. What do you have in mind?”

“You’ll see.” He signals the waiter over, who approaches us carrying a small plate with a cover over it.

I watch in fascination as he lifts the cover to reveal a beautiful engagement ring sitting on a little pink cushion in the center of the plate. Surrounding it are pink rose petals.

The air drains from my lungs as I realize what’s happening.

Luc takes the ring, lowers to one knee before me, and takes my left hand while the waiter stands to the side.
