“You’re so tense, I’d think you were made of stone,” she whispers against my ear. The heat of her body touching me has my shoulders falling and my body relaxing.

“I don’t like hearing about these people suffering this way.”

She cups my cheek, staring at me with so much love in her eyes, there’s only one thing I can do in this moment. I lean forward and kiss her. Our lips brush with a tenderness I’ve only experienced with her, and it’s something I’m quickly growing addicted to.

When she pulls away, her ocean-blue eyes shine with sincerity. “You’re a good man, Dominic Smith.”

I want to believe her with everything in my soul, but I haven’t been a good man this past year, and not even she can deny that.

“I want to be.”

Her lips curl up in the slightest smile. “You are,” she says again before her gaze turns more vulnerable. “I wouldn’t love you so much if you weren’t.”

It’s the first time she’s said it since she first confessed her feelings to me.

I drop my forehead to hers, soaking in her warmth—my Sunshine. I almost say the words back. I can feel them on the tip of my tongue, but something holds me back. It’s not that I don’t feel them, but I’m still not sure she’d entirely believe me. When I say those three words to her, I don’t want her to have a single doubt about me—or us.

“I promise to always do everything in my power to be worthy of your love,” I say instead, hoping someday—very soon—I’ll be able to confess that her feelings aren’t one-sided.

That all my love has always been hers.

It’s impossible to keep my hands off her throughout the night, and by the time I drop her off at her apartment, I’m so hard I could cut glass.

Fuck, I want her.

Even if it’s just a taste.

She looks at me from under her long lashes. “Do you want to come up?”

Hell yes!

Instead, I try to play it cool and tell the driver to hang out for a bit. He’s being paid a hefty sum for the night, so I don’t feel bad about leaving him down here while I go up to Laney’s apartment for a bit.

When we get inside, she sets her purse down and takes her coat off, her movements a little stiff, like she’s unsure what to do.

I’ve got some ideas.

Walking up behind her, I place my hands on the wall on either side of her and bend down to kiss her exposed neck. She tilts her head to the side on a soft sigh, giving me more access, and I trail kisses up and down until goose bumps spread across her creamy skin.

“You have no idea how fucking gorgeous you are, do you?”

She spins around, her eyes glazed with a lust that matches my own. “Tell me.”

Instead, I show her. I’ve never been very good with words anyway. I take her hand in mine and pull her to her bedroom. Her gaze never leaves mine as I reach around behind her and slowly pull her zipper down to the base of her spine. I slide my pointer finger up her spine until I get to the base of her neck and then I take both hands and slowly move to pull her dress down over her shoulders.

But she stops me. “What are you doing?”

I lean forward, kissing her. “I want a taste.”

She gasps, but she can’t honestly be surprised, can she? The sexual tension between us has ramped up with every date, every touch, every kiss. If I don’t taste her pussy soon, I might literally die.

That guarded expression comes across her face, and I know Laney well enough to see the insecurity behind her eyes. She’s always been a little self-conscious about her body, even though I don’t think she has any reason to be.

She’s fucking perfect. Every beautiful inch of her.

But that’s okay. I know how to get her out of her head. And honestly, it’s probably for the best I don’t get her naked tonight or I might cave and fuck her until neither of us can move.

Instead, I guide her to the edge of the bed where she sits and I drop to my knees.
