Clove pokes him. “Being divorced doesn’t mean you don’t agree with her.”

“No, but moving in with Cash and my daughter does.”

Feather gasps. “You’re moving to Winter Falls?”

“He already has. His stuff is in his room.” I motion down the hallway to where his bedroom is.

“Gossip gals, we need to confer.” Sage herds the women across the room where they huddle together.

“I’m sorry, Dad,” I whisper my apology since those women have excellent hearing.

He grins. “After what your mother did, I’m glad someone’s sticking up for Cash.”

“But they’re being rude.”

“I don’t think they’re rude. I think they’re lovely.” He glances across the room to where the gossip gals are standing. He catches Feather’s eye and winks at her. “Excuse me. I should offer our guests a drink.”

I groan as I watch him saunter over to the women.

“What’s wrong?” Cash asks.

“I think my dad has the hots for one of the gossip gals.”

His response? He barks out a laugh.

I elbow him. “It’s not funny. The gossip gals are a menace.”

He wraps an arm around me and hauls me close. “Maybe if they’re busy matchmaking one of their own, they’ll leave the rest of us alone.”

“I don’t know. They have a lot of energy. And time on their hands.”

“I like them.”

“Because they hurried over here to protect you. They didn’t need to invade the house. I would have protected you.”

He kisses my hair. “I know. But it’s nice to be welcomed into the community.”

“Has anyone made you feel unwelcome? Who? I’ll handle it.”

He bursts into laughter. And since he’s holding me, I get the chance to feel his humor. I enjoy it for a moment before I shove him away.

“Are you saying I can’t handle it?” I motion toward my dad. “Why do you think I asked him to come live here?”

He sobers. “You asked your dad to move to Winter Falls? Why?”

“Duh.” I roll my eyes. “Dad needed somewhere to go after the divorce and you’ve always wanted a dad.” I shrug. “I figured we could share mine.”

“Sweetness,” he murmurs before his lips slam down on mine. I gasp in surprise and he uses the opportunity to push his tongue into my mouth. His taste hits me and I moan. I also forget all about our visitors until they start hooting and hollering.

“Find a room!”

“Go, Cash!”

“I’d let him stick his tongue down my throat!”

I bury my red face into Cash’s neck. He wraps his arms tight around me.

“Thank you, Indy,” Cash whispers into my hair. “Thank you for giving me a second chance and for loving me the way you do.”
