Our kiss had awakened something inside me, and all I could think about was exploring it. I wasn’t one to complain, and I was more than enjoying our sneaking around in the days that followed our first kiss. Although Lisa deserved better than my baggage, for once I was allowing myself to savor the moment we had.

“What about this one,Papi?” Fee brought me back from my musings, showing me a light pink glittery nail polisher. We were both sitting on the floor in her bedroom as she rummaged through a little bag of toiletries for kids Lisa had given her.

“That one is really pretty.”

“So can I use it?”

“I don’t see why not.”

My baby girl screeched and jumped into my chest. I hugged her back just as tightly and kissed the top of her head. Those mornings before I had to go to work and Lisa came to babysit Sofia were my favorites. It was my moment with my baby, and I relished them.

She stepped back, sat by the little table Haley had given her a while ago, pulled my hand on top of it, and proceeded to paint my fingernails with the polisher she’d chosen. “Bubblegum” was the name of the color. Wonderful.

Her little brows frowned into a “V” in concentration as she “made me prettier,” as she called it. She even chatted less than usual. Only about 1254 words. She was finalizing the last nail when someone rang the doorbell, and based on the time, it was probably Lisa.

Sofia ran to the front door, anxious to greet her new favorite friend—aside from Gabe. “No need to run,” I called. Although I couldn’t blame her. I wanted to run to the door as well.

Fee stopped in front of it, oozing excitement as she waited for me to open it. When I did, as was becoming the norm, I lost my breath for a moment.

We smiled at each other, and Sofia hugged Lisa’s long legs, giving me time to compose myself before doing something stupid. Like kissing the hell out of her in front of my child.

“Come, come, come, Lisa.” Fee pulled her inside by the hand. “Look, I paintedPapi’s nails. Look how pretty they are.”

Lisa inspected my baby’s work. “You did such a wonderful job. Well done, Ms. Delgado.”

Sofia beamed at the compliment, and my heart warmed at seeing them both so close. It was a shitty thing to do, but I couldn’t help comparing Lisa to Andrea. I had no recollection of a moment when Andrea had complimented my baby. Or played with her, or even cared that much for her.

But then, right in front of me, my baby was growing in confidence because she knew she was loved and cared for. For me, my friends and family, and—as I noticed—Lisa.

Sofia ran back to her bedroom to pick up her bag of polishers so they could play, and I took advantage of that. We didn’t have much time, so the “hellos” could wait.

As soon as she disappeared through the hallway, I pulled Lisa to me and crashed my lips on hers. She opened up to me without any prompting, and we drank each other in. Lisa fisted my shirt, pulling me closer to her, as I grabbed one side of her hips with one hand and used the other to fist her hair. As I tasted her tongue, I forgot all the issues that haunted me when I had only my mind to keep me company.

She was intoxicating in the best of ways, and her kiss made me feel alive and powerful like I could conquer the world.

When we heard Fee’s approach, we broke apart, and I stepped behind Lisa to hide that my dick was straining against the zipper of my pants. Maybe I should’ve been embarrassed for sneaking around behind my daughter’s back, but I was far too past the point of controlling myself.

To be young and in love.

No! Not in love. And certainly not young. I hated to consider Lisa and I were just a fling. That made me feel like I was using her, which wasn’t true. But also, because, for reasons I wasn’t ready to acknowledge, I wasn’t willing to let go of whatever was brewing between us.

It took me a while to realize Lisa and Fee were talking, as I was having an internal monologue on the many benefits of Lisa Specter on my life and health.

Sofia went off running again to her bedroom. “No need to run.” I turned to Lisa, still craving her lips against mine. “Good morning.”

She smiled mischievously. “Good morning, Mr. Delgado.”

I told her a long time ago to call me “Danny.” But hearing her calling me “Mr. Delgado” was a turn-on I was willing to explore as soon as possible. We should’ve been taking advantage of that. Lisa giggled when a groan escaped from my throat, and I needed to kiss her again.

It had to wait, though.

I pulled a strand of hair behind her ear, and I felt bigger—in more ways than one—when she shivered under my touch. “How have you been?”

“You mean since I saw you last evening?” Even her sassiness was a turn-on. “I’ve been good. Although I missed you guys.” She caressed my hand, which was still playing with her hair. “What about you? Anything new?”

“Well, as you can see, Sofiamade me prettierthis morning, and I can’t wait to show my friends how better-looking I am.”

Her giggle warmed my heart and tightened my pants. “Do they give you a hard time over this?”
