My breath hitches. He’s not teasing me or joking. It’s hard to miss the sincerity in his voice, the weight of his words. Is it really possible he feels the same way I do? That this was always something more than a fun fling for him? Can he love me back?

He pulls away slightly and any doubts I’m having vanish under his gaze. My words are still lodged in my throat, but that doesn’t deter Kellan.

“I never wanted to push anything on you,” he continues, “and you were so dead set on nothing ever being serious between us, between you and anyone else. I’ve been happy being whatever you needed me to be, as long as I could be near you, be the one to hold you when you cry, be the one to make you laugh, be the one to make you moan . . .” I shiver at his words, heart racing faster as his fingers tighten on my hips.

“But fuck, Faye, it’s been killing me to give you the space you needed, not when all I want to do anytime you’re near is pull you close, claim you as mine.”

His words are a dream. I never imagined it would be like this, that it would be this easy. I only hoped Kellan would feel the same way I did, and now his words are confirming it, his actions only backing it up. I want to be with Kellan, and for some reason, he wants to be with me. I’m so happy I don’t even know what to do with myself. I’m floating on clouds; I’m dancing in the rain; I’m living in a universe where Kellan wantsme.

I crash my mouth against his, and the revelation between us makes the sensation of his lips against mine brand-new, but at the same time not. Familiar but also like a first kiss all in one, like our lips know exactly what to do, but we’re discovering each other for the first time. His tongue traces my lip, his hands crush me against him, and I’m filled with the overwhelming urge formore. I need more of this, more of his touch, more ofKellan.

Reluctantly, I pull away and lean my forehead against his.

His breathing is as uneven as mine. We stand there for a few moments, catching our breath, letting our words and their meaning sink in. The sounds around us filter through my Kellan bubble, and I realize that I’m standing in the middle of a party wrapped up in Kellan’s arms, where my brother could stumble upon us. If he did, there wouldn’t be any misunderstanding about the situation, no chance we could joke it away.

Even though it’s the last thing I want, I step away, forcing Kellan’s arms to drop. He stares at me in confusion, but before he can say anything, I take his hand. I don’t want Adam to ruin this right now. I’m still burning with the need for more of Kellan. I need it like I need oxygen in my lungs.

“Let’s go back to my room,” I say, my words dripping with meaning.

His hand tightens in mine. “Faye . . .” he starts, a muscle in his jaw jumping. “I didn’t say all that to get you in bed. We don’t have to do anything.”

His words mean more to me than he knows, smothering all my insecurities about him only wanting me as a hookup the second they leave his perfect lips. I know he doesn’t want me only as a hookup, but now I need his touch, needhim, and I know he needs me too.

“I know,” I tell him, walking backward from him until we’re standing apart, our hands still attached, suspended in the air between us. “Iwantto go upstairs. Meet me there in ten?”

The worried look he’s sporting melts into a mischievous smirk, which is right at home on his face.Thisis my Kellan. This playful, fun-loving man who never fails to make me laugh, who’s always up for a challenge, who can’t keep his hands off me when we’re alone.

“Okay,” he concedes, and I take another step from him, our hands forced apart by the distance. “Ten minutes,” he repeats, and I turn to wade through the crowd before I give in to my urge to throw myself at him again.

Walking away, I can’t keep the goofy smile off my face. Kellanwantsme. He wants me! Sure, I didn’t ask him about Kiara, and we didn’t really talk about what that means for us, and I didn’t tell him I love him, but for the time being, it’s enough. We can worry about all that stuff later. Right now his words are enough for me. The intensity in his gaze tells me all I need to know.

I find Lori at a table near one of the bars talking to a pretty girl with long black braids trailing down her back. I have no idea who she is, but Lori’s laughing, and my smile widens seeing her let her walls down and open up with other people. I cross behind Lori and notice that most of the tasks are checked off, and now I really can’t contain my excitement.Body shotis crossed off, and I can’t wait to grill her for more information on that later.

“Having fun?” I ask, plopping down in the chair beside her.

She turns to me, her eyes bright. “Oh my goodness, yes, I’ve been having so much fun! Where have you been?”

I send her a sly smile, remembering what just happened, the revelations I experienced. “With Kellan.” I turn to the other girl.

“Hey, I’m Faye.”

The girl’s lips curl into a knowing smirk as she assesses me.

“Naomi.” She shakes her empty glass. “I’m getting a refill. Lori?”

“No thanks,” Lori replies, pointing to her still-full drink of what’s probably vodka cranberry. With a wave, Naomi ventures through the crowd and Lori turns her full attention to me.

“You’re practically glowing. What happened with Kellan?”

“I told him how I feel.”

Her mouth drops open and her eyes practically bulge out of her head. “You told Kellan youlove him?”

My hand clamps over her mouth. “Shh! Don’t announce that to everyone!” I drop my hand, and she passes me her drink.

“I didn’t tell him I love him, but I told him I didn’t want to be just fuck buddies and wanted to be with him.”

She throws her arms around me, almost knocking over her drink in the process. “I’m so happy for you, Faye! Are you guys, like, official now? Did he ask you to be his girlfriend? Are you telling Adam?”
