The white crop top I borrowed from Lori is slightly too tight for me, which was a strategic move as well as a hit to my self-confidence. I keep tugging on it because I feel like a sausage stuffed into a tube sock, but my boobs look undeniably great.

“You’ve been trying to give me space?” I repeat, my mind racing back through all our interactions over the last few days.

“Why?”

A flush creeps across his cheeks and neck, probably from the heat. “That’s what you wanted. Right?”

My chest tightens, and I stop dancing altogether. “I did?”

He shakes his head, then steps closer to me and places his hands on my hips, making my breath hitch.

The song changes to another, and I glance around for help.

“Hey, is that Lori dancing on the stage?”

ItisLori. She’s holding hands with Anaya between Kiara and Priyasha and moving like she owns the place. Her long brown hair sways around her and her skin glistens with sweat, and she looks confident and so hypnotically beautiful. I want to cheer for her. Dancing on stage is somethingI’ddo while begging Lori to join in, but this strange reversal makes me happy. It’s about damn time she let loose.

“Yeah. She looks like she’s having fun,” he says, then turns back to me, not caring that Lori looks like a goddess on stage.

“Dance with me?” He tugs me closer until we’re touching practically everywhere.

The temperature rises a million degrees, but I manage to take a miniscule step back, even though that’s the absolute last thing I want to do.

“Adam isright there.” I gesture to my brother, who’s within viewing distance at the bar with Alessio and Dean.

His eyebrows draw together. “So?”

I push through the lump in my throat. “He’s not supposed to know about anything between us.”

Kellan frowns, but I know he’d never betray my trust. We promised we’d never tell anyone, especially Adam.

“It’s just a dance, Fayanna.”

Risking a glance at my brother, I see he’s now alone at the bar, and his eyes zero in on Kellan’s hands on my hips.Shit. I quickly step back to force his hands to fall to his sides, ignoring the punch to the gut I feel at Kellan’s deepening frown. “Later, okay?”

He nods slowly, taking a few steps back. “I can take a hint.

See you around.”

A wave of nausea hits me as I watch him walk away. What am I doing? I’ve been making a fool of myself basically all vacation to get Kellan’s attention, and when I finally get it, I push him away? If I wasn’t wearing perfectly applied makeup, I’d grind the heel of my hand into my eyes for clarity. Why do I keep screwing this up? What is wrong with me? Come to think of it, what’s the big deal if I dance with Kellan and Adam sees? I flirt with his friends in front of him all the time! It doesn’t mean anything!

My mind made up, I push through the crowd to follow Kellan and take him up on that dance. It would be nice to feel like the old us for a minute, not like the crazy version of myself I’ve become ever since recognizing my feelings for Kellan.

I come to a clearing in the crowd, and my confidence deflates as Kellan joins my friends dancing on stage. Lori’s retreating form moves through the crowd, so she must have just jumped off, but she doesn’t see me. Dean jumps off as well, and so do Alessio and Priyasha, but that doesn’t stop Kiara and Anaya from pulling Kellan onto the stage and pressing up against him like they’re making a fucking Kellan sandwich. My blood boils as Kellan laughs in his carefree way and turns on the charm that comes so naturally to him, which I’m sure pleases Kiara to no end. The gold dress she’s wearing makes her brown skin look that much more flawless, and her heels make her legs look that much longer. I might as well be in a potato sack standing next to her. Anaya looks just as gorgeous, and I can’t stand around and watch this.

Marching through the crowd, I find Dylan talking to a pretty Asian girl with dark hair. She’s tracing the tattoo on his forearm with her finger, and Dylan is lapping up the attention.

Dammit. I needed to talk to him, but I don’t want to cockblock anyone.

I should find Lori. It’s been a few hours since we got here, and I barely saw her this whole time, except to witness her dancing on stage like she owned it. But I think she’s with Dean, and like with Dylan, I don’t want to interrupt anything.

I must have been standing in this same spot stupidly staring at Dylan for longer than I thought, because he notices me and waves me over. I have no other option than to join them.

“Hey Faye! This is . . .” He gestures to the girl beside him, but clearly forgot her name already. He quickly fills in, “My new friend!”

She rolls her eyes but doesn’t seem upset in the slightest.

“I’m May. Mynew friendsaid it’s his turn to buy a round. You in?”
