He reached for my hand across the table and gave me a smile, “Let’s not talk about this. We are trying to forget our last names, remember?”

I nodded, as the waiter placed down our food and we tucked in. Once we had finished and Alessio paid the bill, we started to stroll around the harbour, looking at all the boats.

“As a kid, guess what I wanted to be when I grew up?” Alessio said.

“You mean to tell me; a gangster wasn’t at the top of your list?” I chuckled as he rolled his eyes.

“Believe it or not, no. Not always. I wanted to be a captain.”

“A captain?” I smirked in confusion as I stopped walking, forcing him to turn and look at me. He let go of my hand and wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me into him. “On a boat?”

“Yes, on a boat,” he laughed. “Like your captain on the Titanic who went down with the ship.”

“So, I had you all figured out!” I giggled as he looked out at the superyachts.

“I guess you did,” his face turned serious and a pensive expression took over his features as he stared out at sea. “I remember the only toy I ever had, when I was living with my mamma. A toy boat. I slept with it every night, imagining myself on it and sailing out to sea to escape. I used to play with it and let my mind wander when…”

He paused, his face tightening and his nostrils flaring. I stared at him, waiting for him to finish his sentence, but something changed in him and he quickly looked down at me with a blank expression.

“When what?” I asked softly.

“It doesn’t matter. It was the only thing I had with me when Diego brought me home,” he changed the direction of his words and let go of my waist. I frowned at that comment. The only thing he had with him?

Suddenly, a large group of very loud and obviously tipsy twenty-year-olds came barrelling down the walkway towards a superyacht. Alessio stepped back to let them pass us and we both watched them shoving, laughing and stumbling to the end of the port. They all started to walk up a narrow bridge onto a yacht, clearly about to have a boat party of their own. I wonder whose Daddy owns that? I searched the group of expensively dressed young people who didn’t seem to have a care in the world.

“Time for number two on my list,” Alessio turned to me with a cheeky grin. “Crash a party and be whoever we want to be for a few hours.”

My eyes widened as he tugged at my hand following the group towards the boat.

“Alessio! Are you serious? We can’t just crash their party!” I whisper-yelled, trying to keep up with his quick pace towards the luxurious yacht.

“Why not? All we have to do is act like we know someone. That we are meant to be there. They are probably too fucked up already to even question it,” he smirked as he started to climb up the wooden bridge.

Oh my god, this man was insane. But the excitement and adrenaline were racing through me and I knew I was already jumping on the crazy train with him. We walked along the side deck towards the back of the boat where the raucous laughter and shouting was coming from. They were British. That much was obvious. And a bunch of rich kids, who were just here for a good time by the sounds of it. Dance music filled the air of the port as someone cranked up the speakers. Alessio looked over his shoulder and gave me a wink. Before I could stop him, he jumped around the corner with his hands in the air shouting, “Wheeeeyyyy!! Let’s get this party started, motherfuckers!”

The chatter stopped as everyone turned to look at Alessio and then over his shoulder at me standing with wide eyes behind him. I held my breath as I waited for their reaction.

“Yessssss mate!” One lad suddenly roared, throwing his arms up in the air too before everyone joined in, cheering before going back to their conversations. I couldn’t believe it. Just like that? We were one of them? What the hell?

The very drunken man, with bright red hair, came stumbling towards us with two beers in his hands as he forced one in Alessio’s and draped his arm over his shoulders.

“Sorry mate. I don’t think I know you yet. Are you one of Lucy’s friends from the island?” he asked, slurring his words and getting very close to Alessio’s face. I held my breath again, unsure how Alessio would react to a man getting so close to him like this. But once again, he surprised me. Alessio smiled, taking a swig from the beer bottle and threw his arm over the guy’s shoulder too.

“Yeah, Lucy. Sorry we are late, man. I’m… Jack. And this is my girlfriend…” he glanced back at me, pointing the beer in my direction with a mischievous twinkle in his blue eyes. I tried to hide my amusement at his new name and shifted my gaze to the red head.

“Flora,” I smiled. “Awesome party.”

“Cool. I’m Fred. The party’s only just getting started and it’s going to be a rager. Macy turns twenty-one and daddy buys her this yacht! Fucking quality, right?” he shouted in Alessio’s ear over the music, leaning into him.

“Lucky girl,” Alessio agreed, nodding his head.

“Hey, man,” Fred lowered his voice to a deeper tone as if he was about to reveal a secret. “You look like a guy that might be able to help a guy out, if you know what I mean.”

I frowned, not having a clue what he meant, but Alessio seemed to know. He smirked, dug his hand into his pocket and pulled out his wallet. My eyes widened when he unzipped a section and pulled out a small bag filled with white powder. Cocaine. It had to be. Fred’s green eyes lit up.

“Is this what you mean?” Alessio asked, holding it out to him.

“Ah, mate! I knew I liked you. You legend! Everyone! This is Jack the Legend!” Fred bellowed as a few of his friends turned around, but most of them barely showed him any attention. “Thanks man. Wanna use it now?”
