I follow Dice to the tech room and pace behind him, feeling fucking useless. “So, what's the connection between fake Tim and fake Ray, and Ray and Steel? And what's Roach’s connection, and why did Roach get the Hellhounds to kidnap Catalina?”

“Pres, I know you're trying to help, but I need to concentrate on Ray for now. Can we look at Catalina later? I'm sure Carmen has people on that.”

“Yeah, but why would Roach kidnap his girlfriend?”

“I don’t fucking know.”

“Well, maybe, if we find that out, we can find out who Roach is or was working with.”

Dice spins in his chair. “Actually, that makes sense. So Ray was kidnapped. Initially, they thought she was Scar.”

“Yeah, so what's that got to do with this?”

“It was the Hellhounds who were working with Miguel, so Ray escapes and hands Miguel over to Carmen, then declares war on the Hellhounds for their part in the human trafficking. Roach knew that, so why would he want the Hellhounds to take Catalina? The Hellhounds were already on Ray’s radar. Was it to have her killed in the process?” Dice turns back to his computer and types out a few lines of code.

“What if he was setting the Hellhounds up? What if he and whoever he works with are in competition and played Ray and the Hellhounds against each other, knowing she would take them out?”

Dice turns to glare at me. “How would they know that Ray was capable of taking them out?”

“Dude, it’s fucking Ray. Anyone who has ever met her regrets it in some way or another.”

“Pres, not fair.”

“Yeah, yeah, sorry. So, who stood to gain if the Hellhounds were taken out?”

“Well, nobody is as big as The Armoury, and although there are a few smaller fish in this area, including us, there's nothing to rival them. So, if anyone was trying to get too big for their boots, The Armoury would take them out. So, who's been making waves?”

“Dante fucking Crane,” we both spit.

“That's who kidnapped me, Steel and Dozer. He was the one who pretended to be The Armoury. So, was he trying to take over, or was he trying to discredit them?”

“Dice, see if you can find any information about him other than what we already have. See if we can get a picture, or at least a fucking description, so we know who we’re looking for.”

Dice puts the feelers out through all his contacts and over the dark web, and then we call it a night. “Let's keep this between me and you for now, Dice.” Hopefully, tomorrow will shed some light on this guy. “What if Roach is working for him? That would give us the connection to Miguel and the Hellhounds. Fuck, let's hope we get something.”

Tank

Dane climbs in the truck. “Thanks, man. I appreciate you dropping me off.”

“No problem, anytime.”

As we pull out the gates of the club and head for Heighton, Dane turns in his seat. “Tank, when you see her tomorrow, don't be too hard on her, okay?”

“What?”

“Ray told me she’s meeting you and Skye tomorrow. Just go easy on her, yeah? She’s not all together at the minute. She’s… broken!”

“Dane, I'm going to see her because I love her and want to make sure she’s okay. I won't force her to come back or hurt or upset her. Honestly, I just wanna give her a hug, hold her in my arms and hope I can help.”

“You can't right now, but she’ll appreciate it.” He sighs. “If I give you a letter for her, will you give it to her for me? She’s off-grid, so we have to be cautious how we contact her.”

“Sure, man.” I smile at him. “Of course I will.”

As we pull up at Bernie’s, I say, “Do you need a hand taking your shit back?”

“Nah, I’m good, man, thanks. I’ll just grab you the letter, okay?” He climbs down from the truck and heads inside. The front door opens. Cade comes out. He has stayed away from the club since Ray disappeared. The only one who’s been near is Bran, and I’m classing driving past as he heads to the lodge he shares with Demi. He hasn't set foot in the clubhouse, and neither has Demi; it's a whole weird vibe. She’s definitely had an effect on everyone.

“Hey Cade, how's things?” He climbs in the truck beside me.
