Dear god, take me now.

“You did, but Lilly is an adult and is capable of making her own decisions. But I can assure you, I will treat your daughter with nothing but respect and be the best gentlemen I can be.”

I gape at Ryan in awed shock. Okay, not going to lie, that was hot. “I’ll see you this weekend. Text you after practice.” He winks before looking back at my dad who I have no doubt is fuming right now. “And sir, she’s gorgeous, I had to shoot my shot.” He shrugs, chuckling before turning around and jogging back to his teammates.

“If the kid wasn’t a hell of a player, I’d kick him off the team for that,” Brody grumbles.

“Dad,” I say in a warning tone. “Want to tell me why you did what you did?”

He wraps his arm around me, kissing my temple. “Nope. I did what any good father would do. And I don’t regret it.”

“Don’t make a habit out of it, Dad.” I sigh heavily. “Please. I don’t want any more unwanted attention on me.”

His face drops. “Shit, I’m sorry, kid. I didn’t think.”

“I know. And I’ll forgive you... this time, but no more over-the-top dad things. You want me to go to RVU? Because I’ll transfer,” I bluff.

“You will not.” He narrows his eyes. “Fine, I’ll be good.”

Chase snorts. “I’ll believe that when I see it.”

“No one asked you,” Brody mutters to Chase.

“I’m gonna go catch up with Bee. I’ll see you guys on Sunday for supper, okay?”

“Okay. Are you taking your car or getting a ride with Toby?”

I blink, not even knowing that was an option. “I’m not sure yet.”

He nods. “I think it’s about time you two make up. I don’t know what the little shit’s issue is, but it’s not cool how he’s treating his little sister.”

The words are always a hot knife through my heart.

“He said he was going to stop being an ass.”

“Good. He better.”

As I walk over to Bee, I think about Sunday supper. This is going to be the first time in a long time that it’s not going to be filled with awkward silence, at least between the two of us. Or that’s what I’m hoping for. I guess it will be the real test to see if he actually meant what he said about wanting to be close again.

Chapter 11

Tobias

“Would you get away from the damn door?” Bishop says, tossing something at me.

“Fuck off,” I grumble, shooting him a glare. I look down to see it’s a pillow and pick it up, throwing it back at him. I hit him in the face, making him chuckle.

“You look pathetic, dude. You're looking out the fucking peephole like a stalker.”

“So,” I mumble.

“What do you see?”

“Nothing. Their door is closed.” I sigh, turning around. “She said he was going to pick her up at eight, right?”

“Yes, she did. I texted her and asked, just like you wanted.” He’s grinning at me, and I hate it.

“Stop looking at me like that.” I flip him off.
