“Are weabsolutelysure there are no cameras or microphones in here?” I asked.

“I checked the whole place while I waited for you. We’re good.” His confidence meant a lot.

I sighed in relief. “You had me worried to death. You know that, right?”

The grin Wyatt gave me was sad. “Welcome to my world.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. “Fair enough.” My smile faded when I remembered how I’d left him in the jungle and what had been about to happen. “Leif? Did you… well, you know?” I couldn’t say the rest. It would hurt too much.

Wyatt’s eyebrows rose and he sighed. “That part is weird.”

He told me about his blackout, waking up in a different part of the jungle, and Leif’s odd behavior. The part about the volcano and the weird tunnel leading into it was even stranger.

“Could that be where Zoe’s hiding?” Wyatt asked. “Some hidden underground bunker inside the volcano? Whatever’s in there, Leif tried his damnedest to get me inside. Something about it wasoff. Creepy and wrong. I can’t really explain it. Just a gut feeling.”

At the mention of Zoe, I told Wyatt about finding her and the one-eyed wolf named Crew. It took a few minutes, but I gave him the gist of my plan for staging eliminations to get the other alphas off the show and out of danger. He looked more and more surprised as I continued talking.

“Kira, this is huge. The fact that people are living and surviving on Bloodstone Island is crazy. It shouldn’t be possible.”

“I know. I was just as surprised, but it’s true. They think they can help us, though. We have to give it a shot.”

“We can’t go into this without more information. There needs to be some kind of foolproof plan in place before we start trying to get guys like Abel and J.D. off the show. If we don’t do this right, they’ll end up dead regardless.”

That was something that had been playing at the edges of my mind for a while. “Do you think they’d kill us on purpose? To keep it a secret?”

Wyatt’s mouth twisted as he thought. “This show makes hundreds of millions of dollars every year. Almost all of that is predicated on the fact that Bloodstone is the most dangerous place on the planet. If it came to light that wasn’t true? Well, people have been killed for a lot less.”

He wasn’t lying. I’d seen enough in my time as an operative to know that was true. “Well, we’ll have more help than we initially thought.”

“What does that mean?”

“Chelsey. She’spissedthe people in charge kidnapped her brother. He’s back home now, but she wants to tear this fucking show apart from the inside, too.”

Wyatt’s eyes widened in surprise. “Wow. I get it, but I’m still a little surprised. She’s tailor-made for this show. Her turning on them says a lot.”

“I don’t have a full plan yet, but if it’s the last thing I do, this will be the last year this show is on. I want it gone. I don’t want to think about how many people have died for this shit for no damn reason.”

Wyatt’s eyes narrowed. “I don’t like the way you phrased that.”

“Huh?”

“You said, ‘If it’s the last thing I do.’ I don’t like that. Taking the show down would be great, but I don’t want it to be the end of you. If it comes down to it, you need to stay safe. Someone else can be the revolutionary. Not you.”

“I know what I’m doing,” I said. Did I, though?

“The people in charge are powerful, Kira. Tons of money, tons of influence, and alotto lose. Think about it. They’re already killing alphas in this fucking game. If it looks like their cash cow might be in danger, the gloves will really come off. That’s all I’m saying.”

He made it sound like nameless and faceless monsters were in the background, pulling the strings, which was probably true. But it irritated the crap out of me when he treated me like this. After everything we’d been through, he still acted like I couldn’t handle myself.

Before I could press him on that matter, he redeemed himself. “As difficult as it may be, if anyone on earth can tear this show apart, it’s you. It doesn’t stop me from worrying about you. I want this over as much as you do, but there’s only so much one person can do.”

He was right about that. One woman against a host of millionaires and billionaires, and whatever awful people they had to send against us? The odds weren’t great. One person couldn’t fight an army. If we were going to bring this thing toppling down, we’d need the rest of society to help. How the hell did you do that wheneveryoneloved the show?

“Anyway…” I said. “I need to get back out there. Make sure to keep up the act. I think we did a good job out there.”

Wyatt raised an eyebrow. “Did you really have to say my dick was small, though? Low blow.”

“You called me ugly.”
