Charlotte (4:33 PM): You’re ridiculous.

Blaire (4:34 PM): You know he won’t stop until you do…

Charlotte (4:36 PM): The gala went really well, and it’s been a busy weekend. I went to visit a bookstore yesterday, and today was just a day relaxing in bed.

Austin (4:38 PM): Anyone with access to the internet would know those are your favorite weekend activities. Doesn’t cut it.

Charlotte (4:42 PM): Impossible boy whom I love very much… Okay, fine. Hayden and I may have… consummated our roommateship today, after spending the day together yesterday.

Blaire (4:43 PM): *David Rose Excuse Me.gif*

Austin (4:45 PM): FUCK YES. I’ve been waiting for this message. Tell me everything.

Blaire (4:46 PM): Ignore him. You do not have to do that.

Austin (4:48 PM): I’m hearing about someone’s sex life in this group chat. It’ll distract me from the fact I’m not getting any. So, Blaire, wanna tell me why you and Cole had Christmas lights lying on his nightstand in October instead?

Blaire (4:49 PM): Charlotte, for the love of God, please take one for the team here.

Charlotte (4:53 PM): Can’t, sorry. Hayden’s sitting right here and says if I’m using the phrase “consummated our roommateship,” he didn’t do it right. So byeeeeee. *wave emoji*

Austin (4:54 PM): You lucky bitch!

Austin (4:57 PM): So, Blaire…

Chapter

Twenty-Two

Hayden

I felt like humming as I entered my office might be a little unnecessary, on top of the huge smile and spring in my step, but it was an effort to restrain myself. I’m sure other great weekends had occurred in my past, but nothing was coming to mind that even came close to this past one. Waking up with Charlotte in my bed this morning, being able to kiss her when I felt like—life was good. We hadn’t talked about where things were headed or what this meant for the future. For once in my life, I was trying to enjoy the hand I was dealt instead of trying to plan three moves ahead.

“Good morning, Hayden,” Leslie greeted me, an amused smirk on her face. Fuck, I had been humming after all, hadn’t I? Oh well, it was a great day.

“Good morning, Leslie. Happy Monday!”

“Good weekend, was it then? You had a good time at the gala?”

“It was the perfect weekend. The gala was just the start. Do you mind sending me the number for a good florist? I want to surprise someone with a bouquet today.”

“Oh, of course. Absolutely. You know, I could do that for you. I’m sure you have other things to attend to,” Leslie said uncertainly.

“And you would do a splendid job picking them out, but this is one flower order I’d like to handle myself. Maybe I’ll even go down to a shop at lunch and pick something out in person.”

Leslie was attempting to contain laughter at this point. “Must be a very special someone.”

“You don’t miss a beat, Leslie,” I said with a wink.

I couldn’t care less if she was making fun of me a bit. I probably deserved it for the obnoxious mood I was in. “I’ll see you in thirty minutes with that florist information and to go over my schedule for the week?”

“You got it, Hayden. I’ll be in then.”

I switched to whistling as I entered my office, taking off my suit jacket and hanging it on the back of my chair. I had just wiggled my mouse, waking my computer from its weekend slumber, when my phone rang.

“Hayden, Preston’s on the phone for you. Do you want me to put him through?”
