"I don't know. Next time we get the chance though, we'll make it happen."

"We certainly will." Her gaze dipped down to the bulge in my pants. She looked immensely pleased with herself. She glanced up at me, the picture of innocence, although there was a wicked grin on her face. "Are you okay?"

I was not. I wanted to rip her clothes off and have my way with her. Instead, I nodded stiffly. "I'll manage."

We gathered our things and when the doors dinged open again and we both stepped out, I held my coat in front of me.

"I'll see you later, Miss Bennett. I look forward to our next encounter."

Her eyes twinkled in mischief. "I look forward to it as well, Mr. Haynes."

Chapter Five Sophia

My purse dangled from my hands as I trudged home. The late evening drizzle poured down on me as I went.

That morning, the sun had been shining particularly bright. The day had seemed so perfect, and I made the horrible decision to go to work on foot.

It helped that I'd been giddy with excitement at the prospect of seeing Alexander.

Ever since our little session in the elevator, I'd been itching to be with him again. I craved to feel his lips on mine again. I was desperate for his hot breath on my chest. Teasing me and leaving a trail of kisses as he went.

It had been explosive. And I wanted nothing more than for it to happen again.

I regretted my decision to go to work on foot. I wished I would have considered the evening weather.

Earlier that evening, I'd been so immersed in my work that I hadn't noticed how late it had gotten. By the time I got to the bus stop my only way home had already ridden off without me in it.

Missing the bus wasn't the worst thing in the world. I simply gripped my purse tighter and decided to get my cardio in. Halfway to my apartment, the rain had begun.

I paused to roll my ankles. The strappy silver sandals I wore had seemed like a good idea that morning. They didn't seem so great now.

My heels kept sliding around in them and the rain puddles had gotten them soaked. The squishy sound I heard every time I took a step was beginning to get on my nerves.

A soft meow made me pause. I furrowed my brows, glancing around. The sound came again, and I followed it. That was when I saw it.

There, on the corner of the wet sidewalk, was a tiny, soaked cat. It had patchy cream fur, and it was curled into itself completely.

When I got closer, I noticed that it was shivering. The cat's front paw looked to be broken.

I knelt, dropped my purse beside me, and then tugged off my blazer. Using it as a sort of blanket, I gently picked the cat up and cradled it in my arms.

"You poor thing," I breathed, rubbing the fur. I scratched its ears and it let out a quiet purr.

I frowned. "I can't leave you here. I can't take you home with me either. I have to take you to the shelter." I bounced it in my arms. "But the nearest shelter is almost three blocks from here." I sighed. "What am I going to do?"

I strapped my purse back onto my shoulder, still bouncing the cat. I sighed. How was I going to make it three blocks to the shelter, and then back home in this rain?

"Need a ride?"

I nearly dropped the bundle in my arms at the sound of the voice. I spun around and my eyes widened at the sight before me. A large, silver BMW was parked at the side of the road. Alexander stared at me through the passenger window.

Just the sight of him made my body tingle. I instantly felt warm despite the rain.

"What are you doing here?"

"I was driving by, and I saw you. I thought you could use some help."

He stepped out of the car and walked around it to get to me. "Do you need help?" He paused when he noticed the bundle in my arms. He squinted at me. "Is that a baby?"
