She fucking giggles. I think I may be in shock. This stoic, hard-ass of a woman has done a complete one-eighty from the person I met a month ago, and I’m completely hooked.

“Oh my God,” she says, groaning. “What have you done to me?”

“I don’t know, but you can bet I’m going to keep doing it once I figure it out,” I say, and she just laughs again.

“You are too much, Bodhi Kane,” she shakes her head and presses against my chest until I lift off of her.

I stand and pull her with me, lacing my fingers with hers while I steal one more kiss.

“You don’t seem to mind all that much,” I say.

“Yeah, well, don’t tell anyone,” she says, rolling her eyes playfully.

I mimic the act of zipping my lips, if only just to watch her smile again. I’m so gone for this woman; people wouldn’t believe it unless they saw it with their own eyes.

And they will.

“You hungry?” I ask, tucking her hair behind her ear.

“Yeah, I could eat,” she says, and I’m thankful that Keaton is one of those girls who isn’t shy about food, because I love it and don’t want to be the only one eating all the time.

“How about breakfast burritos? There’s this truck that parks in town, and they have the best chorizo and egg burritos,” I say, and watch her eyes roll back in her head.

“Sold. That sounds amazing,” she says. “But first, I need to use your bathroom,” she says, and lifts up onto her toes to peck me on the lips before heading down the hallway.

Now that I’m alone, I take the opportunity to adjust myself. Maybe athletic shorts are not the way to go whenever Keaton is around. I’ll worry about that later.

Instead, I grab my phone and keys from the coffee table and see that I have a few missed texts.

Rob: Hey, I just saw the rig pull in. Glad you got in safe, kid.

Mom: Glad you’re back, honey. Swing by later this week and we’ll do lunch with Nana and Pop.

Rob’s must have come in last night. I was too tired to even check in with anyone, but it was so late, I didn’t expect anyone to be up. Thought I should have known Rob would be. He has a kind of habit of making sure I get back from races in one piece. It’s nice. Not like my dad is checking in or anything.

Mom’s came in this morning, though.

I shoot off a quick reply to each of them, letting Uncle Rob know I’m good and just heading out for food, then I tell mom to let me know when she wants to do lunch, and I’ll be there.

I wonder if I could convince Keaton to tag along. I bet Nana and Pop would love her. It wouldn’t be hard.

“I’m ready,” Keaton calls from over my shoulder, breaking my train of thought.

“Alright, let’s go.” I stand and reach for her hand, leading her outside, trying not to think too hard about that last thought.

Who am I kidding? I’m a goner.

Chapter 33

I spent the weekend at Bodhi’s racing and just hanging out. And kissing. There was a lot of kissing. We tried to make sure that we didn’t end up anywhere close to the position we put ourselves in the other day. As much as I think the both of us wanted it, you definitely agreed that we should wait a little while longer.

It was torture for both of us; he acted like it wasn’t that bad, but I caught him adjusting himself more than once over the last few days, and I knew that I had the same effect on him that he had on me.

But today I’m back at work and practically counting down the minutes until my next day off. I almost beat Bodhi in our last race, and I’m itching to get back out there and leave him in the dust.

“What’s got you smiling?” Teagan asks as we fill the sugar caddies.

“Can’t I just smile?” I ask, filling half of the caddy with the pink, yellow, and blue packets, before sliding it over to Teagan so that she can fill the other half with sugar packets.
