“Why does her being good mean that you aren’t?” I ask him, ignoring the way his muscles stretch as he rests his weight against his forearm.

“Well, it doesn’t I guess.” His brows furrow as he seems to contemplate my point.

“You can still be a damn good driver and have someone be better than you are. That’s just the way of life.”

“I guess I really never thought of it that way.” His face softens the realization of that statement settles in.

“I would be damn honored to even have the opportunity to race alongside Lacey. Whether I won or lost,” I admit.

“Oh, but not me?” He smiles playfully.

“I didn’t say that. You’re just a cocky ass and don’t need any help with that big head of yours,” I say.

“Hey,” he reaches up and pats his head as if I’ve offended it, causing me to laugh softly.

“The point is, you’re obviously good at what you do, otherwise you wouldn’t be doing it.” He better take that compliment and run with it, because I don’t see myself making many more in the near future.

“Thanks.”

“Sure.”

He stands there for a moment, just silently watching me. I would love to ask him what it is he sees, but the longer he stares, the more nervous I become, and I know I won’t be able to control my fidgeting before too long.

“So… are we going to do this or what?”

The mischievous glint in his eyes makes me weary, but then he drags his bottom lip between his teeth, and I swear I feel it in my knees.

“Hell yeah, let’s go.”

Dear baby Jesus, what the hell am I doing?

Chapter 19

When I opened my front door to find Keaton standing there, two thoughts ran through my head. One, did I manifest this? And two, how hard would she slap me if I pinned her up against my front door right now?

After the dream I’d woken up from this morning, of her bent over the hood of my car, her peach of an ass soft beneath my hands and my dick nestled tightly between the apex of her thick thighs, I climbed directly into the shower and took care of myself… twice.

It did nothing to erase the image of Keaton from my mind. I was still wired. So, I decided to put that energy to good use and get in a much-needed work out. I was about thirty minutes into it when the doorbell rang. I wasn’t expecting anyone, but very few people actually had my gate-code, so whoever it was, it must have been important.

It took everything in me not to get hard at the sight of her standing there, the afternoon sun shining brightly over her tanned skin.

She may have only come here to take me up on one offer, but I could think of plenty of other things I’d like to do with her, as well.

I was coming to realize, though, that Keaton was like a wild animal, and any sudden movements were bound to scare her off.

All in good time, I told myself.

After dressing quickly, I returned to find her hovered outside the opened door.

“You could have come in,” I say.

“I know,” she says, working the corner of her bottom lip between her teeth. The way her eyes quickly travel the length of my body before returning to my eyes tells me she’s just as aware of how dangerous it would be for the two of us to be alone in my home.

Not quite the ice princess, after all. She’ll just take a bit of warming up.

“So,” she purses her lips in question, “are you ready?”

Oh, most definitely.
