I don’t say anything, just take her lips with mine as I pull out and thrust back in.

Her sweet whimpers spill into my mouth and I swallow them down, one after another. Her arms circle my back, and I make the mental note to be cautious of her broken wrist.

Her knees draw up to bracket my hips, and I hook one hand behind her thigh, holding her there.

“I’m close,” she says, and I keep up the same rhythm, willing myself to wait and let her finish first.

At the first signs of her orgasm, I reach between us and circle her clit. Her pussy squeezes my cock with every pulse, and I come hard.

If she hadn’t mentioned being back on her birth control last night, I’d probably be a little more hesitant to finish inside of her like that.

After a moment, I fall down on the bed beside her, catching my breath and watching her do the same. When she turns her head and smiles up at me, I feel like I won the fucking lottery.

“I love you so damn much,” I whisper, reaching over and brushing my knuckles against her cheek.

“I love you, too,” she says, and I wish that I could suspend us in this moment in time. Lost in our love for one another, tucked away from the world and all of its danger.

Unfortunately for us, the bubble had to pop at some time.

I just never expected it to be so soon.

It's just after lunch when Sander shows up. For the first time in at least a year, I'm not dreading him being around. I hated that I always felt that way about him, but it's such a relief to not feel that way sent more.

Ma pulls him in for a hug, patting him on the cheek, and Rob shanks his hands in getting.

“Hey man,” Bodhi says, clapping him on the shoulder. “Didn't expect you today. Is everything good?”

“Actually, can we talk?” Sander asks, gesturing between the three of us.

My guard instantly goes up. I know that look in San's eyes. Either something has happened, or he's worried something's going to happen.

“Yeah, we can step over here,” Bodhi says and leads us toward a small shed sitting on the edge of a small old pond. It looks like the kind one might keep koi fish in, but it appears to be empty at the moment.

“Is everything okay?” I ask as soon as we're out of earshot of everyone else.

Sander's face says it's anything but.

“I don't know how much Bodhi has filled you in, but basically, we know who was responsible for your accident. He's been arrested and is a confirmed member of the cast, he says, getting straight to the point.”

All of this is news to me. That fact made a parent when Sander takes in my wide-eyed expression.

“Yeah, we haven't really broached to the subject yet,” he says to Sander, then to me, “Sorry, I just wanted to give you at least a day to relax.”

My immediate reaction is to snap at both of them. I'm not really into the idea of them facing my issues head-on while I'm just hiding and healing. I know that they both mean well, and that this is the only way to be sure that matters are dealt with. As much as I told myself that everything I was doing to keep these problems at bay was working, it's clear that it wasn't. Mateo would have just continued collecting weekly payments from me until I had nothing left to give. This is how things have to be done, regardless of how I feel about it. My ego will have to deal with it.

“No, that's fine. I completely understand,” I say, and smile at him.

“Well, he can fill you in on the details later. Obviously, you and your mom are staying here because we don't know where Mateo is and if he issued the hit on you or if that was just his guy acting on his own. Either way, I've been doing a bit of digging and something stood out to me,” Sander says.

“What?” Bodhi asks, standing up a little straighter.

“K, you know how you said you only told Bodhi and I about your eviction warning?” Sander asks, and I nod.

“Yeah, what about it?”

“You asked me if I’d paid it for you that day on the beach,” he says.
