My heart breaks for the man I’m blanketing with my body, my limbs wrapping around him and squeezing. He rolls onto his back and his arms band around my body, his grip so tight it’s right on the edge of pain. I welcome it. I bathe in it.

“Oh, Tyler,” I whimper, my arms finding a way to hold him even tighter.

His hand brushes up and down my spine as he shushes me. “It’s okay, Hellcat. Don’t cry.”

I mumble against his chest, “It’s not okay.” I pull back suddenly, and Tyler’s eyes widen in surprise as I sit astride his hips. “You found those bastards and killed them. Right?” My voice goes up an octave, almost shrieking, “Right? Tell me you did.” My shoulders slump and I sob, “Please.”

Tyler cups my face in his hands, his thumbs brushing away the tears only for them to be replaced with more. “I made sure of it. I didn’t stop until everyone we could find who was involved met the reaper. I had to bide my time for some of them, but between myself and my brothers, almost everyone in charge of that ring was put down. There are probably people we don’t know about involved as well, but I’ll never stop. I will always need to seek vengeance and send people like that to hell.”

I tilt my head as I study the man underneath me. There’s a challenge in his eyes as well as a hint of worry I won’t accept this side of him. Maybe he doesn’t realize I’m in love with him already. Maybe he doesn’t know that while I can’t understand what drives him, having never felt the kind of pain he has, I can empathize.

I lean forward, my lips a breath away from his. “Good. I hope they suffered, and you made it hurt.”

The world tilts, it always does with Tyler, and I’m on my back with him looming above me, a growl coming from deep in his chest. When he captures my mouth with his, his cock hard and heavy between us, I know he’s going to fuck me until I can’t think of anything but him and the connection between us.

“Hellcat,” he breathes with reverence.

I feel euphoric as he enters me. He gave me some of his darkness. I’ll turn it into light.

But now I know I can’t ever take away all the shadows lurking inside of him. Nothing can change the past and I need him made of steel to take those down who deserve it. But I can help him carry the load of it all.

I’ll gladly tarnish my soul so he can stand sentry while I dance in the light.

CHAPTER 7

MONK

I grunt when Crucify comes up and slaps me on the back, but I don’t take my eyes off my woman. Hell no. How could I when she’s the most gorgeous woman in the room?

I swear she’s trying to kill me with the skirt she has on tonight. It’s short as hell and sexy as fuck. So are the high-heeled boots she has on. I’ve been fantasizing about her boot clad legs being wrapped around my waist as I plow into her since I picked her up tonight.

I almost said fuck this party, but I couldn’t. The excitement on my woman’s face wouldn’t let me, and I haven’t missed a party where a brother has been inducted into our ranks. Then there’s the fact that it’s a going away party for Lennon.

Yeah, there was no way I was missing it.

But I was fucking tempted. Just like I’m about a second away from marching over to my woman, throwing her over my shoulder, and taking her up to my room at the clubhouse. I don’t think she’d mind too much, but she’s been having a damn good time getting to know the other old ladies.

Crucify’s tone is incredulous, “I go away to make sure Lake isn’t making a horrible mistake in marrying some dude in Wyoming to come back and find out you’re with Rebel?”

“She’s mine,” I growl.

“You gonna claim her at the table?” When I finally tear my eyes away from my woman laughing across the room, I look Crucify in the eyes. He sighs and runs his fingers through his hair. “Yeah, you’re going to claim her at the table.”

I huff, “Don’t ask stupid questions.”

My eyes find Rebel again. She’s talking with McKenzie, Robyn, Evelyn, and Lennon. The way she moves her hands as she speaks, all excited movements, has me itching to move closer to hear what they’re talking about. When they glance over at me, I swear my fucking ears start to burn.

“Shit,” Crucify mutters, “they’re talking about you.”

One side of my mouth quirks upward. “Seems like it,” I grunt.

“She’s a good woman,” he muses.

Something in his tone has me looking at him again. Really taking his measure. There’s a longing in his eyes when he glances at me, one I’ve never seen there before. It has me curious, and I don’t normally do curious when it comes to the personal lives of my brothers.

“She is,” I agree, unable to let his comment go completely. “You okay, man?”

He sighs, his shoulders slumping slightly. He looks over at where the very scantily clad club angels are entertaining some of the single men. Crucify has never been shy about taking an angel to his bed. I never really understood it, and not just because I wasn’t interested. At the same time, I was never going to judge any of my brothers for their choices.
