“Yes, I think, once. We usually go on Daddy’s boat, but we stopped in Rome one time.” She turns to the side, “Right, Gigi?”

I hear Glinda’s voice. “Once that you remember. You’ve been a few times.”

“Oh.” She looks back into the camera. “Daddy said you painted yesterday. I can’t wait to see it.”

“I’ll send Gigi pictures and she can show them to you.”

Andie looks more closely at the camera as though she’s examining us. “Amanda, did you forget your pajamas?”

I hear Glinda cough-laugh before deflecting. “Andie, Daddy and Amanda have to get going to Daddy’s boat. Why don’t you say goodbye?”

“Wait! Daddy needs to tell me his morning joke.”

Beckett turns the camera back to himself. “Want to hear a good pizza joke?”

Andie nods. “Yes, of course.”

He scrunches his nose. “Never mind. It’s too cheesy.”

Andie giggles. I hear Glinda’s voice. “Good lord, Beckett, do you Google terrible jokes every night before bed?”

He lets out a laugh. “Something like that.”

“Bye, Daddy. Bye, Amanda. Have fun on our boat. I love it. I can’t wait to go on it this summer.”

We both say goodbye and he ends the call.

I look at him. “It sounds like Andie has been here a lot.”

“We spend a few weeks each summer off the coast on the boat. It’s our happy place.”

“Oh, it’s big enough to spend more than a few nights?”

He gives a sly smile. “Just barely.”

“If she loves it here, why didn’t we bring her?”

He pulls my legs down and slides his body between them, pinning my hands over my head. Kissing me softly, he says, “Because I’m selfish and I want you to myself.”

After another roundof category-five-orgasm-inducing sex, we get packed and dressed. “How long is the drive to your boat?”

I see the corners of his mouth raise in amusement. “Well, normally about five hours, but I have something else in mind for us.”

Fifteen minutes later, we’re in a helicopter, leaving the roof of the palace, and heading toward his boat. I guess this is how the other half lives.

I squeeze his hand for the entire ride, admittedly a little scared, though loving the view.

He places his hand on the pilot’s shoulder. “Give her a lap when we get there.”

“Yes, sir.”

In less than an hour, we’re over the most turquoise-colored, majestic water I’ve ever imagined. It almost seems fake, like it was contrived on a movie set or created in a painting. But it’s my current reality.

He leans over. “We’ll ride around the island on mysmaller boat tomorrow, but I thought you’d like to see it from up here.”

“You have two boats?”

“Yes. One for sleep and one for fun.”
