I immediately recognized the woman’s voice.

“Yes, this is. Is this Victoria?”

“It is,” she confirmed. “I wanted to reach out to you this morning and let you know we’ve finally decided on an applicant for the position you interview for, and that person is you.”

Warmth and excitement washed over me. “Really?”

My eyes connected with Griffin’s, and though he didn’t know what was happening on the phone, he couldn’t miss how happy I was and smiled back at me.

“Yes,” Victoria confirmed. “We’d like to offer you the position, if you’re still interested.”

“I am definitely still interested in the position,” I told her, watching as understanding dawned in Griffin’s features, and his smile grew.

“Perfect. So, we’d like to have you come in one day next week to complete some additional paperwork, and then we’d want you to start the following Monday. Will that work for you?” she asked.

“That works perfectly for me.”

“Great. Oh, and I have a note here that you were interested in the housing option,” she began again. “I did look into that for you, and I’m sorry to say there are no more doubles left, but we do have one single and a few quads left. Were you still planning to look at the housing option?”

I closed my eyes, feeling such immense relief.

The excitement and happiness I felt could not be quantified. I hadn’t intended to sound so eager when I replied, but apparently, I couldn’t contain all that I was feeling. I opened my eyes, but my gaze remained on my feet. “Yes. Yes, I’m still interested in housing as well. I’d prefer the single, if that’s possible.”

“Absolutely. I don’t have anyone else scheduled for a housing visit, so I’ll mark it down here that you’re planning on taking the single. Since there’s only one left, I’ll pull it down from being available, so nobody else sees that it’s available, and if you decide to change your mind and want to go with the quad, we can make that happen.”

“That sounds wonderful. Thank you so much, Victoria.”

“You’re welcome. Now, would you be able to come in next Tuesday or Wednesday, so we can get all of this squared away?” she asked.

I wanted to get this nailed down, so the sooner I went, the better. “Tuesday would be perfect. What time would you like me to meet you?”

“Mmm… how about ten o’clock? Would that work for you?”

“Tuesday at ten works for me.”

“Wonderful. I wish all of my calls were this easy,” Victoria declared. “Okay. I’ve got you on my schedule for next Tuesday at ten o’clock in the morning, and as soon as we disconnect, I’m going to get that single pulled off the internal listing here at the resort, so nobody thinks it’s available.”

I grinned. “I’ll be there. Thank you, again.”

“You’re welcome, Indy. I’ll see you next week.”

With that, Victoria and I said goodbye and disconnected our call. I let out a deep sigh of relief.

Finally.

After applying and interviewing for so many jobs for more times than I cared to admit, I’d finally gotten hired. Best of all, it had an option for housing. I couldn’t have been more relieved.

“I take it you just received some good news,” Griffin said, his voice interrupting my thoughts.

I lifted my gaze to his, smiled, and nodded. The tears were welling in my eyes. “I did,” I rasped.

I hadn’t expected I’d get emotional, but evidently, I hadn’t realized just how stressed I’d been about my situation. This wasn’t my ideal job, but it was the best I could have hoped for, all things considered.

Griffin’s eyes roamed over my face, and it was clear he was troubled by my reaction. “You’re crying,” he noted, moving closer and wrapping an arm around my back so his hand could settle on my opposite shoulder.

“I’m happy,” I rasped, wanting to reassure him as I flattened my palm against his abdomen. “I’ve gone to so many interviews over the last few months, so this is such a relief.”

Understanding dawned on his face, and he dipped his chin in acknowledgement. “Then I’m very happy for you, Indy. Congratulations.”
