“What the fuck did you do to her?” My eyes open in time to see Nick rip off his shirt, grab an offered knife from Marco, and take measured steps towards the person who triggered such a response from me. Crouching down, he viciously grips her throat until she sputters. “I said… What did you do to her!”

“Nothing she didn’t deserve. She always was such a good little bleeder.” The woman cackles, I puke again, and Nick plunges the knife he’s holding forward. Blood spurts from her mouth as her eyes widen with horror.

Ripping my shirt off, I stand up, her words reminding me of the mysterious scars on my body. I always wondered how I got them. I could never remember, but now I know. I know because she’s the one who used to sit on top of me in bed and slice up my flesh like I was some slab of meat, laughing in my face as I would scream and cry. No one ever helped me out, though. No one dared to defy either of them.

Until Nick.

He rescued me.

It’s that thought that gives me the courage to walk forward until I’m in his eyesight and he gets a good look at the white scars along my stomach and chest. The slices of flesh I now remember with painstaking accuracy as each wound was inflicted.

I whimper as my fingers trace the individual flaws, reliving the experiences. “Make it stop,” I whisper down to Nick, his face filled with fury and torture as he drops the woman to the floor.

“Wes,” he snaps, “take Mickey.” The feline prowls forward. “Untie her. Take her outside, and let him have fun.” Nick stands, picking me up as he goes. “Marco, get the doctor. Now!” He’s furious. I should be terrified, but I feel utterly safe.

“Nick.” Adonis calls his name, stopping him as he’s about to leave the room with me in his arms. “I’d like to take Ricci. Need some answers about some things before you slaughter him.” I suspect this man isn’t used to asking for anything.

Nick doesn’t turn as he responds, “Make him fucking suffer once you’re done.”

“Oh, I plan to.” There’s a viciousness to the other man’s voice I hadn’t expected.

CHAPTER 6

Nick

Passing George as I head back to our room, he stops me. “You never mentioned guests.” There’s an accusation in his tone I don’t have the patience for right now, not after the way Rue exposed herself to everyone in my office. And I don’t just mean physically. She laid her soul on the line by showing us the scars on her body from a mother who never deserved her.

“Not now, George.” His weathered eyes narrow before they snag on the beauty in my arms. A growl erupts in my throat, making me sound feral. His hands raise, and he steps back, wisely keeping his fucking mouth shut.

“Boss?” Rage ripples through me at Granger’s voice. If not for the woman in my arms, I’d be whipping out my pistol and ending this irritating interruption.

“What?” I snap, stopping but not turning around.

“They’ll be here in the morning.” There’s a healthy dose of concern in his voice, so I resist killing him. For now.

“Text me when they get here. Make sure you’re ready to train them to death. And I fucking mean that, Grange. If they aren’t ready, I’ll be putting a bullet in their brains.”

“I’ll do it myself, boss.” Nodding, I stride away, heading upstairs. I know Minnie is following behind, so I wait until she’s in the room before slamming the door shut and locking it.

Kicking off my shoes, I carry Rue into the adjoined bathroom and sit her on the counter. “Let go for a minute, little one.” She’s reluctant but eventually does it, with a sexy pout on her full lips.

Shaking my head, I turn away, starting the shower before returning to her. Her curious and cautious eyes follow my every move as I reach into the cabinet below the sink to pull out a fresh toothbrush. Ripping open the package, I toss it in the trash, grab the paste, put a strip on it, and hand it to her.

While she brushes, I set towels on the warming rack and strip out of the rest of my clothes as she rinses her mouth. Picking her back up in my arms, I grab hold of her panties and tear them from her body. I have no patience to stop and peel them down her legs. Not right now.

Walking into the warm spray, I don’t bother to get her to let go of me. If there’s something I’m learning about Rue, it’s that she’s starved for human contact, so I’ll give as much to her as I can. It’s no skin off my back. The only protestation my body will have is that I can’t bury my dick in her slick little cunt until she’s come out of her shell a little more.

“The water okay?” I glance down at her, eyes closed, face nuzzled into my chest. She’s addicted to the sound and feel of my heartbeat. I’ll have to find out why. “Rue?”

Unhurriedly, her lids open, eyes snaring mine, and her head bobs. Brushing my lips across her forehead, I get the rest of her long, coffee-colored hair wet before pressing her against the wall so I can wash it.

Massaging my fingers through the locks, I begin speaking. “What do you remember of the world, Rue?” Her shoulder lifts in a shrug. “That file Adonis brought me says you could be a genius with a photographic memory, that true?” I pause and gaze down at her as I grab the shower head attachment to rinse out the shampoo.

Tilting her chin with encouragement, she closes her eyes before asking, “What does that mean?” Anger surges again. They locked her away and didn’t fucking teach her shit.

“Genius means crazy smart. Photographic memory means that when you see something, you can easily recall it in great detail, possibly forever. Whether it’s something you’ve read or seen.” Lathering my hands in conditioner, I give her the same treatment as before.

“I don’t know.” Her voice is tearful. This world is so fucking foreign to her.
