He kept him on the floor, kicking the gun away from their bodies. I screamed for help; people rushed into the room to get Bruce off Shawn. When Bruce noticed that I was safe, he passed out. The bullet wound had put him in a state of shock.

“Bruce? Bruce?” I called out repeatedly as I applied pressure to his wound.

“What the hell is going on in here?” a familiar voice asked.

I looked up and found my younger half-brother in the room.

“Tabitha?” he called out.

His eyes fell on the body I was trying to stabilize. “I'll take over. I know a hospital nearby.”

He didn't even ask me to do anything in return; he just dove straight into action. If there was one thing I loved about my siblings, it was their dedication to the medical health of everyone around us.

“Thank you please just help me,” I pleaded as we tried to get his body out of the room.

I didn't get whatever they did to Shawn. All I could think about was my baby on the brink of dying.

Isaac had already sent for an ambulance; they were there in a matter of minutes. He was better at handling wounds, so he stabilized Bruce at the hotel before we got into the vehicle.

“What are you doing in Zurich?” I asked.

“One of my friends is a speaker at the event,” he answered without looking at me, his eyes focused on Bruce. “Who is this?”

“He's my everything,” I answered, surprising him, “We just can't afford to lose him.”

“First Lucas now you,” he remarked. “Love is sounding more like a dangerous thing to me right now.”

In the sterile hospital room, the scent of antiseptic filled the air. Bruce was rushed in, his face pale with beads of sweat on his forehead. Panic and worry were etched on my face as I stood by, feeling utterly helpless.

The medical team swarmed around him, their movements quick and determined. Beeping monitors and hushed voices created a tense symphony. I wanted to do something - anything to help. The nurse gestured for me to step back, but I couldn't tear my eyes away.

With a mix of fear and determination, I approached the bed. The connection between us was palpable; A silent understanding was passing between us. I held Bruce's hand, whispering words of encouragement that only we could hear.

The room seemed to blur as Isaac and the other doctors worked on him. The beeping of machines and the distant chatter of the medical team all became background noise to my racing thoughts. My support seemed to make a difference, a subtle energy transferring from me to him. A collective sigh of relief echoed through the room as Bruce's vitals became stabilized.

The medical team exchanged glances, a shared moment of triumph. My grip on Bruce's hand tightened, a mixture of gratitude and love in my eyes. He had yet to open his eyes, but we knew he was going to be okay.

“Another one actually came for you?” Mother asked.

With everything happening like this I finally understood why Lucas wanted to partner with a higher power.

“Yes, I didn't expect it to be Shawn of all persons,” I said. “Mom, he hurt someone close to me. And I don't want that to happen again. Not to me, not to Bruce, and not to any one close to me.”

“I may not be a good mom, but I'm the only one allowed to ruin my children's lives,” she responded. “I'll look into it and make sure no one touches both of you again.”

It was a deal with the devil. But better the Devil you know than an angel you have no knowledge of what his past may be.

Bruce

“I can't believe it. You actually took a bullet for someone else,” a familiar voice laughed.
