I don't know why but hearing them call me an alpha felt off. These women were openly fawning over him. They all looked like Helena in terms of personalities. I felt left out. They were locking arms with him, poking his face, and leaning on his shoulders playfully. All things I should have been doing.

“Ladies, please, back to work,” he commanded.

They complained a little bit but left immediately.

“You seemed like you were having fun,” I said as I crossed my arms and looked away.

“Having fun?” he asked. “Wait, don't tell me you were jealous.”

“I wasn't jealous,” I responded. “I just thought you had a lot of important things to do other than being fawned over by nurses.”

“If that's not jealousy, I don't know what is,” he said and chuckled.

“Call it what you want.” I rolled my eyes.

He stood behind me and placed his hand on both my shoulders. “You don't have to worry. They are nothing but colleagues.”

“You might just be saying that,” I muttered.

Hearing his voice too close to my ear was causing some mental and emotional damage. I bore with it.

“I'm not,” he assured me. “If it makes you feel better, do you want to try volunteering with me? That way, you can make sure no other female comes near me.”

“I'm only volunteering because I want to help the kids,” I replied immediately. “You can do whatever you want with your colleagues.”

He laughed and stated, “Alright, ma'am. I promise you I'll behave myself.”

“You better,” I pouted.

Helena had been right about this as well. My normal alpha state wouldn’t allow me to show a shred of jealousy. At my hospital in Richmond, there were times when female doctors and nurses would talk to him. I would get jealous but never show it. Now I had the opportunity, and he found it amusing. A win on my part. I worked closely with him. He taught me how to handle the children. I enjoyed every moment. I couldn't help but wonder if this was how he would act when we had our children.

Wait, what am I saying?

I didn't expect to see her in Maryland. For some reason, when she mentioned she had come to visit her sister, I felt genuinely happy for her. As someone who had a sibling I wasn't close to at first, I knew the importance of bonding with a sibling as soon as possible. I just hoped that the relationship would continue. It was also lovely working with her.

She seemed different - more feminine in a way. There wasn't anything wrong with her being an alpha or dominant. To be honest, I like that about her. Seeing her ask for help, respond with a kind smile, and even show jealousy raised her points for me.

Why does she keep making it difficult to carve out my original intention?

“Thank you for coming around,” I said.

“Why did you lie, though?” she asked.

“Lie?” I started panicking, wondering if she had found out about the operation already.

“You said you were here to volunteer. But you're actually the owner of this hospital,” she explained.

Yeah, that…

“Honestly, my answer might be funny to you,” I said.

“I'm listening,” she said.

We were at the playground at the children's hospital, sitting on the swings. It was nighttime. I was ready to go home, but we decided to stay a little and chat before leaving.
