"Probably he wants to acquire information to exchange with Mommy," Helena, the youngest sister, said to announce her presence. She was dressed in a mini skirt and crop top, a cigar in her hand.

"Watch your mouth, you little bitch," I spat out.

"Relax," Helena commanded. She raised her hands in defense, eyeing my necklace while smirking. "I see the spoils of Mommy's favoritism rests heavily on your neck."

I squeezed my hands into a fist and gritted my teeth. There was a reasonable distance between us; even if I were to get up, Helena would have something up her sleeve.

"Guys, we really don't have to be like this," came a voice from the kitchen. Gregory, the youngest of our mother's children, showed himself.

He took his seat next to me, his eyes trained on Helena. She had a sour mouth and didn't mind attacking any of us.

"Alright then. The peacekeeper has spoken." Helena curtseyed before taking her seat.

It was quiet until the sound of the front door opening drew our attention. Each of us assumed that Father had returned. Isaac showed his face. He was technically the youngest but the only child of his (not our) mother—the living proof of Father's infidelity. He stood at roughly six feet and had possessing eyes that resembled a playful dog's.

"Ah, the playboy is here," Helena announced. "If Father summoned you, it might mean that this is actually a serious matter."

"I thought the same thing," he replied in a soft voice. "Good evening, Tabitha, Greg, Helena… sir."

"Lucas," Lucas reminded him. "I keep telling you not to call me that."

"Can you blame him?" I asked. "You resemble the old man down to the minute details."

"Even keeps tabs on us like the old man, too," Helena added. "Maybe you've joined Tabitha to suck up to the parents."

"I will not be spoken to like that by either of you," Lucas warned. "And do not test me."

We both glared daggers at him before looking away; I tried distracting myself with content on my phone. Isaac took his seat, avoiding eye contact with the rest of us.

"Every time," Gregory grumbled. "Are you sure all of us are even siblings."

"At least one of us didn't have to deal with the rest of us while growing up," I quipped.

"That has to be the most inclusive, non-inclusive thing I've ever heard you say about me, big sis," Isaac said in a sarcastic tone.

"You're welcome," I grinned at him.

Gregory was right; none of us were that interested in each other. Lucas and Helena ran their own circus. Isaac felt like an outcast being forced into a flock. Gregory just wanted peace. As for me, it felt like I was forced to be there. I couldn't wait to leave.

I was exhausted. Immediately after dinner was over, I left the house. Father had brought home a girl – not any younger than me. He claimed that he wanted to marry her. The woman, or my incoming stepmother as I would like to address her, came with a friend.

The friend, Olivia, was working at Lucas's hospital under a recommendation from Father. It was a surprise that Lucas had employed her, especially with the knowledge that Father could have sent her to spy on him.

I suspected something was going on behind the scenes, as I had never seen or heard Lucas praise anyone the way he did when it came to her.

"Maybe I should look into that whenever I have the chance," I thought to myself as I drove home.

I took a different route on a whim; then by pure coincidence, I noticed that Bruce was outside a restaurant. He was staring at his phone and looking both ways, almost like he was waiting for someone. Well, as a good boss, it would only make sense to help him out.

I drove toward him and parked. "Your Uber is here."

He stared at me blankly; then a warm smile formed. "What if I told you I wasn't waiting for a cab?"

"Cut the bull crap," I stammered and rolled my eyes. "Where are you headed?"

"It's a stone's throw from the hospital," he answered.
