“It doesn’t matter,” Brett said before Nick could get angry at the threat. “We’ll stick to this deal. As long as you keep your end, and keep the vampires under control, we won’t have any problems.”

“I’ll guide them,” Faye said. “They need strong leadership.”

“Then it’s agreed,” Cara said.

“Yes, it’s agreed,” Faye said.

She looked at the three of them for a moment, and then she walked towards the door. “I’m sure we’ll see each other again soon.”

“I hope not,” Nick said.

Faye gave him a final smile and a light wave, and then she was gone.

They waited a few minutes to make sure she was actually gone, but eventually, they let themselves relax.

“She’s terrifying,” Brett said.

“Yeah, she is,” Nick said.

“Seriously,” Brett said. “I thought Samuel was scary, but there’s something about her that makes my hair stand up.”

“I know what you mean,” Cara said.

“Now, let’s get out of here before anyone else tries to take a bite out of Nick.”

Nick frowned. “I can take care of myself.”

“Sure, you can, buddy.”

“I’m serious.”

“I know,” Brett grinned.

“You’re so annoying,” Nick said.

“You don’t believe that,” Brett said. “You can’t get enough of me. You came all this way to get me back.”

“I was already in the area.”

“Sure.”

“Just passing by, really.”

“You care about me,” Brett said.

Nick looked at Cara. “Do you think we can leave him here?”

“If he’s a stray, he’ll probably just follow us home,” she said.

“You’re right,” Nick said.

“It’s not fair if you gang up on me,” Brett said.

“Life isn’t fair,” Nick said.
