The kiss was reverent, and I knew how badly he wanted to worship my body. I’d never been this close to anyone. Having a friend—a partner—made me realize what a treasure this man was.I’m not losing you.

“Talia,” he rasped, breaking the kiss. His fingers dug into my arms as he rasped, “I could have hurt you—back in the bedroom.”

“But you didn’t.” I trailed a finger along the sharp line of his jaw.

“You should have told me you were hurt,” he growled.

“I would have if you’d taken me any other way,” I promised. “But the angle was conducive to making love in my condition, so I didn’t see the need to stop.”

As I spoke, I pressed gently on his shoulders, coaxing him to sit on the shower ledge, conveniently located under the hot spray. There was a moment where his hard gaze searched my face. He must have seen my intention in my eyes because he acceded to my touch. Once he was seated, I climbed over his lap and lowered myself onto him. He was rigid and ready as I straddled him. Rising over his hips, I ground my pelvis against him and slowly lowered, joining our bodies.

Constantine groaned roughly. My eyes fluttered closed as delicious sensations snaked through my core. He didn’t stop me, aware our position wouldn’t hurt either of us, especially when pleasure was involved. Constantine let me ride him, hard, until he exploded under me, sending a tidal wave of pleasure soaring through me and causing me to come undone.

Chapter 45 – Talia

Iwas jerked from theblissful sweet nothingness of sleep as something warm and solid moved beside me. I groaned as my sore and battered side reminded me of my damaged physical condition and opened my eyes.

Constantine stopped his slow, careful exit from the bed. “So, you’re a light sleeper too,” he observed, hot gaze running over the lines of my body before they slipped under the sheet.

Flashing him a slow smile, I stretched, lust stirring deep in my belly. From the shadows in the room, I could see his hungry eyes watching me. “Good morning to you too,” I whispered.

“It is,” he said, swooping down to grip my chin firmly between his fingers for a hard, quick kiss. “Because you’re where you belong.”

I warmed all over, feeling the ache of desire burn between my legs. But even though we both wanted it, Constantine pushed away from me and disappeared into his closet.

“Where are you going?” I called after him.

“To get dressed.”

I rolled over and stifled a moan of disappointment into the pillow. The soreness between my legs was delicious, but the ache that went through the rest of my body conveyed how stiff and bruised I would be for the next couple of days. The truth was, I didn’t want to leave this room, because the moment I got up and went downstairs I would have to face reality. My father wanted my husband dead, and my brother was a cruel, demonic bastard who needed to be put down before he could try and hurt the man I was feeling these strange and deep emotions for...emotions I didn’t dare name.

The situation wouldn’t go away by ignoring it, but dammit, I didn’t want to face it.I want to stay in bed...with him. Just a little longer. This cocoon of safety and intimacy was something I had never imagined having.

I was happy Constantine acknowledged last night had been more than a physical connection. Whatever laid between us was solidifying on a much deeper level—and this scared me, because I didn’t want to lose it.

Something soft and light fluttered onto the bed, brushing over my legs. I looked down and saw it was a bathrobe, but before I could reach for it, Constantine gripped my foot and kneaded his thumb into the tender arch. “I’ll have the rest of your personal items brought into my rooms this afternoon, but for now, you have my permission to leave and go get dressed.”
