“Makes cooking videos on Instagram.”

Gavin hummed, rubbing his forehead, certain that he was spreading dust across his damp skin. “I swear, I don’t usually get jealous like this, but it’syou.”

“Gavin, I was serious when I said that this thing between us is real and exclusive. You have nothing to worry about, okay?Definitelynot with Charlie.”

The crazy thing was, he did trust Ginny and he knew that she was serious about what their relationship meant. But his brain couldn’t let all of it go and he certainly didn’t know how to not be jealous when it came to Ginny Thomas. My Nia.

“I know,” he sighed, turning to look back at the house and found his mother on the porch with his dad. Cedar was practically in Juniper’s lap. “I just miss you.”

“I miss you too. But it’s just one more day. I’ll see you soon, okay?”

“Send me all the pictures, so I don’t miss you too much.”

Ginny laughed and made kissy sounds into the phone. “Be good, Little Rhodes.”

After another round of bye’s, Gavin put his phone back into his pocket and joined his parents on the back porch. His mother had already interrogated him about his visit—“I’m always happy to have you here, but this feels like something else“—so they knew he was missing Ginny, but neither of them said anything as he sat down and let Cedar climb halfway into his lap.

They never really did any more work in the store room and Gavin was glad for it. He had lunch with his parents and collapsed into his childhood bed for a nap, waking up hours later when his phone buzzed incessantly. Groaning, Gavin rolled over and reached for his phone, blinking at the millions of notifications from Ginny. There were a few texts in the group chat with his brothers, but Gavin didn’t even bother looking at them.

Ginny had sent a picture of herself with Charlie—an Asian man who definitely looked too young to be anything but ‘brother material’—as well as one of her in a beautiful black dress that hugged her curves and flaunted her legs. Her texts that followed started with random updates about her day and then turned into worry when he hadn’t replied. Chuckling, Gavin sat up in bed and texted her back.

Gavin

You look so fucking beautiful. Did you have fun with Charlie?

Ginny

There you are! I was starting to get worried.

Gavin

I was exhausted and collapsed into bed in a food coma after lunch.

Ginny

Poor baby. I’m sure Juniper appreciated you helping out, though.

Gavin

We barely did anything, because mom doesn’t know how to throw shit out.

But seriously, you look incredible.

Ginny

Thank you. It’s one of my favorite dresses.

Gavin

How come you’ve never worn that with me?

Ginny

It would require us actually leaving the house…

Besides, I like that you don’t care what I wear and take me as I am.
