“Maybe we just tell tourists that everyone used to belong to the circus?” I’d seen some big acts over the years and they’d looked like it could’ve been magic. “People believe what they want to believe, so it would probably be fine.”

But cell phones.

Okay, he might have a point about the wholenot encouraging touriststhing, but that wasn’t a very happy conversation, so I changed the subject.

“When did you know? Like, really know?” Now I was the one swinging his hand like we were kids.

He flashed me a sexy grin. “You can hear me when I’m in my dragon form. You seem to think you’re talking to yourself, so you keep mentally brushing me away. I wasn’t sure how to point it out.”

I was back to looking like a fish again.

“Shoot.”

Daddy was back to snickering.

I really was very easily distracted.

Before I could even open my mouth, Daddy’s finger came up and he shook his head. “No, we’re not going home. I’m going to take my mate out on a date and then we’ll go back to his place…and if he can manage to keep his mouth off my dick when I take my clothes off, I’ll shift and prove it to you.”

Ugh.

“You’re so mean.”

Boyd rolled his eyes. “Yes, taking you out to dinner so I can brag about what a wonderful mate I have is terrible.”

I was glad we were on the same page because he was going to owe me a wonderful present for making me wait.

Chapter 22

Boyd

“We’re being stared at.” Stefan was trying to whisper, but his near giggle made him louder than he thought.

Leaning against him in the booth, I actually managed a whisper. “Because you’re cute.”

And that had the giggle escaping.

“We’re just really nosy. Kenzie said so.”

Mr. Kennedy needed a hobby.

“Kenzie’s right.” Stefan didn’t bother whispering that time. He went pure local and stretched up to lean over the back of the booth. “You’re very nosy. Would you like to come volunteer at the library for a few hours a week? You need a hobby, Mr. Kennedy.”

Out of the mouth of sweet librarians.

Mr. Kennedy just huffed and went back to his dinner.

Amazing.

I couldn’t hold back a smirk as Stefan settled back into his seat. “You’re a true local now.”

Chuckles floated around the diner as Stefan grinned and wiggled. “Thank you.”

He’d definitely found where he belonged, so much so that he didn’t even blink when Kenzie sat down across from us, dragging his Daddy with him. “Hi, we’re not going to interrupt your date but we thought we’d say hello. We’re friends with both of you, so that makes it alright.”

This was kind of the definition of interrupting our date, but Stefan’s chuckle said he didn’t mind. “Hello. I’m glad we’re friends. Boyd said you’ve been friends since you were little.”

I might’ve rolled my eyes but the deputy seemed to agree with me based on how he was shaking his head at Kenzie.
