Page 30 of Secrets and Kisses

“Thank you.” Boyd leaned over and kissed my cheek as I jotted down the new question. But even note-taking couldn’t stop me from blushing again. “You’re very cute when you’re learning.”

That was ridiculous.

“But it probably feels like you’ve got a lot to learn about me between the dragon stuff, the domination and Daddy side, and just regular boring me, so I’m not going to complain if you jump around or focus on one for a while.” I didn’t know what he saw on my face, but his smile widened. “However, I wouldn’t mind if the Daddy part came sooner rather than later.”

I couldn’t decide if he was impatient or excited, but either way he really didn’t want me to ignore the Daddy side of things and it was kind of cute.

“So you’d pout like Kenzie if I kept putting it off and asked about your work and what movies you like and what your favorite book is before I started going through my dragon list?” I wasn’t the best when it came to teasing but Boyd groaned playfully.

“Yes, I’d pull a Kenzie and even stomp my foot.” As his drama faded, he looked wicked. “I might even get so upset I’d do something drastic like not show you the present I got for you.”

He got me a present?

Looking around the car, I tried to see what was in the back seat. “Did you get me flowers? Dessert? A book?”

Boyd laughed. “Oh, you like presents, huh?”

Oops.

Sitting back down in my seat, I put my hands in my lap. “Um, yes?”

He kept chuckling and looked very pleased with his discovery. “I’ll remember that.”

I didn’t doubt that at all.

“But…but what did you get me?” He’d tell me, right? “You didn’t say it was a surprise.”

That would be terrible.

“I’m starting to think my sweet date doesn’t have any patience.” Boyd looked a lot like Kenzie’s Daddy as he pretended to frown. “I’ll have to keep that in mind.”

Then he was naughty and did something horribly frustrating.

He got out of the car.

I was still sputtering and figuring out how to complain appropriately when he came around and opened my door for me. “Thank you for waiting for me to open your door. You’re a very good boy.”

He didn’t seem to realize he was supposed to apologize for making me wait for my present. He just released my seat belt and took my hand.

“I…” Well, I liked being a good boy. “Surprises are hard.”

Maybe if I called him Daddy, I could get my present faster? I’d call him Daddy for a new book or flowers. Those were both very nice gifts and he’d like being called Daddy.

Making him happy might get my present sooner too.

But as he helped me out of the car, he made that sound unlikely. “Then be a good boy over lunch and I’ll give you the presents I picked out for you when we get back to town.”

Did that mean he had my present with him?

Where was it?

Wait. Had that been plural?

“I can be very good, but I don’t know the rules.” He liked that because he smiled but it also might’ve been because I was looking in the back seat again. “What…what makes a good boy?”

I thought about what I knew and frowned as I turned to Boyd. “Kenzie always seems to be naughty, so it can’t be that hard because his Daddy says he’s a good boy.”

Boyd’s face scrunched up. “What did we say about not living our life by Kenzie standards?”
