And my chest locked. Macy was on the floor, her mouth bleeding. I watched Warner draw a handgun.

“Gun.” I spun and charged through the door.

In a smooth move, I pulled my own SIG, the metal cool in my hands. As a raced into the empty living area, I saw Macy launch herself at Warner. She tackled him around the knees.

The gun went off, the bullet hitting the ceiling. On the wood floor, Macy and Warner wrestled.

He still had the gun in his hand.

Fuck.

I aimed. “Put the gun down, Warner, or I will shoot you.”

He didn’t even react. Macy’s head jerked up.

I saw that she was pissed, afraid, and running on adrenaline.

I wanted her safe, smiling, humming some godawful pop song.

Reath and Kavner burst in through the back door. Reath had his gun aimed, as well. Beau moved in behind them, blocking any escape through the back door.

“Put it down, Warner,” I said again.

The man sat up, swiveling to aim at me.

I fired. He jerked, clamping a hand to his shoulder, his eyes wide. Then he turned the gun toward Macy.

I felt like the world slowed. As the barrel headed for Macy, my fucking heart stopped.

Boone came out of nowhere. He slammed a kick into Warner’s arm, sending the gun flying. It crashed into the wall.

Macy scrambled backward.

“Kav,” I barked.

“I’ve got her.” My brother crouched beside Macy, pulling her into his arms.

I turned, my jaw tight, and closed the distance to Scott fucking Warner.

Boone had him pinned against the wall. His face was cool, set in a composed mask. I saw the soldier in him. I nodded and he stepped back.

Warner’s gaze locked on me. “She’s mine!”

“She was never yours.” I gripped the front of his shirt. “First, she belongs to herself. And second, she’s mine.” I wound my fingers in the fabric, and saw fear break through Warner’s eyes. “You took my daughter.” I punched him in the face and he grunted. “You hurt my woman.” I punched him again. “I won’t let you hurt anyone else.” I followed with a volley of brutal punches.

Warner cried out, blood pouring from his broken nose and split lip. I kept seeing the blood on Macy’s mouth. I let my anger free, and I kept hitting him.

“That’s enough, Colt.” Reath appeared on my left. Beau appeared on my right.

“He’s out cold,” Beau said.

Warner became dead weight, his head lolling.

“I’d be doing everyone a favor if I kill him.”

“And we’d have your back,” Reath said. “But if you don’t, he’ll go away for a long time. Kidnapping. Stalking. Assault. Attempted murder.” Reath lowered his voice. “And right now, your woman needs you. And your daughter’s waiting to see that you’re both okay.”

Some of the raw fury leaked out of me. I glanced over at Macy. She sat in the circle of Kav’s arms, watching me with wide eyes.
