She snuggled into me, and blew out a shaky breath. “Yeah. I am now.”

Damn, she felt so tiny. The idea of the danger she’d been in made me scowl.

I rose, lifting her with me.

“My bike…”

I hadn’t even noticed it. I saw the front wheel was twisted and my scowl deepened. I’d find whoever the asshole was who’d hit her, and make him pay.

“You have your scary face on.”

She didn’t seem all that scared. “I’m going to find who did this.”

She slid her arm along my shoulders. I felt the touch through my Henley.

“It was an accident, Colt.”

“So, you’re her boss?” the young guy said.

“Oh, Dean and Raven, thanks for helping me. These guys are from the coffee shop.”

I pretended to ignore the girl in black mouthinghotto Macy. A hundred dollars Raven wasn’t the name on her birth certificate. Dean glared at me some more.

After I’d gotten Macy settled in my SUV, I went back and grabbed her bike.

“Don’t forget the muffins in the basket,” she called out.

“You’re worried about muffins?” I gritted out.

“Sugary baked goods are always a serious business.” She smiled, and I was just damn happy to see some color back in her cheeks. “And I got them for you. Blueberry.”

For me? I loved blueberry muffins. I looked at the bag and shook my head. Then I shoved her bike in the back of my SUV.

“No more bike riding.” I got in and slammed the driver’s side door behind me.

“But Colt—”

“I’ll pick you up from now on.”

MACY

“Ow.”

I tried to yank my hand away, but Colt held on tight.

“Got to clean this.” He wiped an antiseptic-soaked cloth over my scraped palm.

It’s stung like crazy. “It’s worse than falling off my bike.”

He’d already cleaned my elbows. That had been fun. Not.

“You didn’t fall.” A muscle ticked in his jaw.

“Hey.” I grabbed his wrist. “I’m okay.”

He grumbled under his breath, then tossed the bloody cloth down, and got another from the giant first aid kit he kept in the office.
