“Definitely a bikini,” I quickly tell her, which makes her cheeks turn adorably pink.

“Umm, I’m not sure my doctor should say things like that.” She cringes. “Sorry. It’s going to take a bit of getting used to.”

Fuck it. Just tell her.

“We kissed,” I blurt out. “When we met before.”

She stares at me wide-eyed with amazement and possibly disbelief.

“You were wearing a bikini. You looked so damn good in it.”

She ducks her head but not before I catch her turning scarlet.

“Sorry. I don’t remember. Dancing and kissing strangers doesn’t sound like me at all.”

“I could help you to remember,” I offer, the words out of my mouth before my brain can stop me.Idiot! She still thinks of you as her doctor. Her confidante. You’re moving too fast and probably freaking the fuck out of her!

Her head whips to me. “You can? How?”

I falter. I know what I was thinking, but the last thing she needs right now is me hitting on her like some randy teenager. I should say something clever. Doctorish. About helping her work through her trauma to peel back the layers of protection her mind has wrapped her memories in.

But I don’t.

“I could kiss you. See if it rings any bells.”

Fucking idiot. That’s nearly as bad as asking if she wants to fuck!

“Oh!” she gasps. “Umm…”

I quickly backtrack. “I’m joking, Malia.”

Then her face falls and I’m so confused. “Do you want…me to kiss you?”

“Sorry!” She buries her face in her hands. “Yes. No. I don’t know!”

I reach over and gently prise her hands away from her face. “Hey. It’s okay. You can still talk to me, Malia. That hasn’t changed.”

“I’m sort of…dating…Cove a-and Bhodi.”

“I know.”

“Oh. Well, yeah. They live together. I didn’t know they knew each other. I’ve been so… Anyway, now I’m freaking out. And then I find out the doctor I’ve had a crush on isn’t really a doctor and he’s my new roommate and he’s offering to kiss me to help me with my memories and—”

“It’s a lot,” I finish for her.

“A huge lot.”

“You’ve had quite the morning.”

“Yeah.”

“But you had a crush on me?” I can’t help the grin that stretches across my face.

“Had.” She shrugs. “Have. I’m very confused.”

I wrap my arm around her shoulders and pull her close, thrilled when she rests her head against me. I don’t know what to say. She’s right, it’s been a hell of a day already and it’s not even noon. I’m not here to complicate things for her.

“What did we talk about, when we met?” she surprises me by asking.
