Chapter 21
Banger
WhileGhostandCadenwent to their meeting with Lex and D, I volunteered for bodyguard duty. Not that it’s any type of hardship being around Bridget.
She had a client this morning to get ready for a photo shoot, so I took up a chair to the side of her workspace, content to just watch her work.
“Who’s he?” the girl whispers. I hide my smile and continue scrolling on my phone.
“That’s Banger,” Bridget answers.
“He’s hot,” the girl sighs, and Bridget laughs. Do they know I can hear every damn word?
“Don’t I know it.” Bridget turns to look at me over her shoulder and winks, answering my question of whether she knew if I could hear her or not.
I'm still not sure where I stand with her. We’ve flirted, but that’s it. She has a connection with the other guys, but this is the first time I’ve had her one on one, and I plan on taking advantage of it. I want to get to know her, and this seems like the best way.
My phone rings, and Caden’s name flashes across the screen. I swipe to answer and pull the phone to my ear. “What’s up?” I answer.
“Hey. We found out some shit.” He tells me about what they saw on the footage and Holden finding that fucking hacker Nolan. “We’re going to run down and grab him. We need to know why he sent that shit to Cian. You cool with staying with Bridget? You can take her to Nik if you have something to do, but she doesn’t stay alone.”
“Nah. I’m good staying with her,” I answer honestly. “You got plenty of backup?”
“Yeah. We should be back no later than tomorrow morning. Take care of our girl.”
Our girl?I still can’t wrap my head around that. They are set on all of us being with her, and I still don’t know where I fit in. I just know that I want to be a part of this.
“You don’t have to worry about her.”
“I know,” Caden answers. “But watch your back. Don’t take her into Concrete Row until we get back. Mercy’s watching over the Vipers, so you can stay with her.”
“Alright.”
“And Banger? Use this time to your advantage because you won’t get this alone time with her often.” He laughs, and the phone disconnects.
I shake my head and go back to my mindless scrolling. My phone rings again, and I smile when I see Mom flash across the screen.
“Hey, Mom,” I answer.
“Hey, baby. You still coming to see me and your dad today?” Shit. I forgot I promised I’d come to their house today. I glance at Bridget and almost tell Mom I can’t. Fuck it. She can go with me. When I started bringing in some cash, I got Mom and Dad out of downtown Abbs Valley. It wasn’t much, but it’s better than that cramped one bedroom apartment.
“Yeah. It’ll be later, but I’ll be there. I’m bringing someone with me.”
“A girlfriend?” Mom asks, excitement in her voice.
“Just a friend.”
“Uh-huh. What’s her name?”
“Bridget.”
“I can’t wait to meet your friend.”
