It made sense. They would have family friends among all the different types of supernaturals.

But…

Well, I was still a little worried.

“Just be careful. Call me if you need anything.”

Brynn snorted. “Because you’re always accessible right now.”

My face heated. “I’ll get you guys Raf’s brothers’ phone numbers. I’ll introduce you to them today, too. They would’ve told me if we were in danger, so I’m sure there’s nothing to worry about. But I want you to be able to get in touch with them, just in case.”

“I’m pretty sure I saw them. One of them, at least. He looks like Rafael, but grumpier,” Brynn said, going to work on my hair with the curler. It would look much the same as it had the day before, but I liked it that way, so I was going with it.

“That would be Sebastian. He’s the oldest. He’s definitely the most serious one.”

“Zander is the other one, right?”

“Yeah. I think he’s the most adventurous one, and he’s the youngest.”

Brynn nodded. “It checks out.” She glanced at the shower as Miley slipped out wrapped in a towel. “Do you have plans to turn your one-night-stand into a one-weekend-stand?”

Miley bit her lip to hide a smile. “Maybe.”

Brynn grinned. “I’m happy for you.”

“So am I,” she admitted, before leaving the bathroom to get dressed.

“Who did you hook up with?” I asked her, knowing she’d gone into the party with wild plans.

Her lips twisted in a grimace. “No one. August snarls at every guy who looks at me. I’m going to single-handedly prevent you from getting caught in a lie just by being here.”

I snorted, and she laughed too, though hers was tired. “Why is your brother so protective?”

“Dragons are obnoxiously possessive abouteverything. As far as my brothers know, I’m an innocent little virgin who sells coffee and candy with a smile.”

“Most of that’s accurate,” Miley pointed out, grabbing a comb as she reentered the bathroom. She’d pulled on a pair of shorts and a loose tank top, not bothering with a bra.

“Right, but not the innocent part. I don’t think they realize how much shit there is out in the real world.” She continued working through my hair, and Miley turned me so she could do my eyeliner. “I’ll never be able to fall in love like a normal person. They’d scare any sane human guy away in a heartbeat, and it’s not like I interact with many supernatural beings.”

My heart hurt for her. Miles and I knew damn well that Brynn was the romantic of the three of us. She wanted the flowers, the chocolates, the fancy dresses, the dates. It was no wonder she’d been so set on me introducing her to Rafael’s brothers.

I couldn’t help but think back to the way I’d seen Sebastian looking at her… but he could’ve been looking at someone else.

Or it could’ve been in my head.

I wouldn’t get her hopes up over something that we had no control over. Maybe I’d figure out a way to ask him, after the parties were over, though…

“We’ll be single together forever,” Miles declared, as she and I both wrapped our arms around Brynn. She was the tallest of the three of us by far, but Miles was the shortest, so we always said they evened each other out.

“We should adopt a dozen cats,” Brynn said.

“A dozendogs,” Miles corrected.

Brynn narrowed her eyes at Miley, and Miles narrowed hers right back.

“Six of each,” I decided, grabbing the curling iron Brynn had set down for a moment.

Brynn stole it back, Miley picked up my makeup bag, and we finally focused on getting ready quickly.
