I’d consider teasing him about it once this wasn’t so new, but for now, it just felt too fucking good.

Halfway through the second movie, Ransom sat up and stretched. Lazily, he slid an arm around me.

“Really?” I teased. “You’re gonna try to sneak second base during a movie?”

Reaching down my dress, he rolled my nipple sending a lightning strike to my core. “Who said anything about sneaking?”

RANSOM

The next couple days were a combination of frustration and utter bliss. As a team, we just forfeited a third game and I was pissed as hell at Mulaney. We stopped calling him Coach; he was just a guy who yelled at us now. But on the opposite side of the spectrum was life at home. What Phoebe and I were doing now was a fantasy come to life. Phoebe was blossoming into this sexual vixen, learning what made me crazy and doing it as much as possible. And she was just authentically herself. She did what she always did, but instead of having to rein it in, I could unleash on her, feel her softness under me, feel her meet me thrust for thrust, and enjoy exploding together.

Lately, I loved how she stopped pulling the covers up the moment we were done. She was finally starting to come out of her shell with me, appreciating what her body could do instead of worrying how it looked. I happened to love how she looked. And she finally stopped rolling her eyes when I said that too.

Tonight, I grilled steaks outside on the back patio near the firepit. There was nothing better than grilling in the winter. Sure, it was cold as fuck, but it didn’t matter. I loved grilling and I wasn’t waiting until April to grill again.

Turning off the gas, I snatched the steaks off the grill and tossed them into a container to keep them warm to take them inside. Phoebe already had rice pilaf and veggies ready and on the table.

“Have you heard anything from the guys?” she asked taking a bite and groaning. “Oh my God, Chief. I forgot how good you were with a grill.”

Leaning over, I kissed her breathless, then straightened to take my own bite. “Haven’t heard anything since last night. Except, get this. Leroy, the GM, approached the Raptors. Tried to get them to take our places in the last game.”

Phoebe narrowed her eyes. “You’re shitting me!”

I grunted. “Nope. You know what they said, though.”

She huffed. “A pretty firm ‘hell no’ or ‘fuck you’ I’d imagine.”

Chuckling, I stabbed a piece of steak. “That just about covered it. Next game is in two days. Abagail and Leroy better get off their asses and get this taken care of by then. I miss skating.”

She nodded thoughtfully. “Is there anything I can do?”

We were already sitting close, but I pulled her chair closer until we were hip to hip. “No space.”

After dinner, she needed to do a few more things for work. It was alright. She wasn’t running. She was working.

I flopped down on the sofa and pulled out my phone. The group chat was a hive of activity tonight. Coach got himself fired and Streya Buchoskya, the coach for the Raptors, the affiliate where a lot of us played before we went pro, was promoted. Hell, yeah.

I called Calder.

He answered eagerly. “Hey, Pierce. It’s awesome, isn’t it?”

I grunted my approval.

Calder sounded giddy. “Yeah, and we already know he respects Molls, so we’re on for the next game. We’re all meeting at Ilya’s place in an hour. You should come and bring Phoebe too.”

I couldn’t wait to tell her. “Yeah, I’ll see you in a bit.”

Hanging up, I strode straight for the guest room but stopped short when I heard her on the phone.

Phoebe whispered to someone. “What, me? Absolutely nothing.”

She listened a minute, then huffed. “Not a fucking thing. Nothing is ever new with me.”

Even though I didn’t know who she was talking to, it still felt like a knife to the gut. Didn’t she want people to know about us?

Backing away from the door, I sat on the sofa fuming. How could she say that there was nothing new in her life? She was with me now. Insecurity flooded me. I stood and went into the bedroom to change. I needed a drink with the guys. If she was too busy working, so be it.
