Page 40 of Desiring You

She gave me a sleepy smile. “Yeah, I did. I see why you like it in Taylor Ridge so much. There are some really good people here.”

I nodded. “Some of the best. Not sure what’s happening next year, though.”

She frowned. “Next year?”

I checked for deer. “Coach worked out for us to play here this year while they redo the rink in Charleston. Haven’t heard if we’re heading back there next year or not.”

Her mouth opened in surprise. “Oh. I didn’t realize you were only renting the house.”

I shook my head. “I’m not. I bought it.”

Her head snapped to look at me. “But why buy a house here if you don’t know where you’ll be next year?”

I swiped at my nose as we pulled into the garage. “I like it here. I visit Seattle when I have to go for business, but I’d rather live here. I like the quiet. And with a lot of my teammates living here, seemed like the place I wanted to be too.”

As we hopped down from the truck, I held back to walk in behind her. I was trying to figure out how to tell her she could live here no matter where I played next year.

But Phoebe screamed. “Dom! What are you doing here?” She ran over to the sofa and tackled my little brother with a huge hug.

He shrugged. “Front door was open. I took it as a sign.”

I scowled. “There’s no car out front. How did you get here?”

He chuckled. “There are these things called taxis.”

I clapped him on the shoulder. “Smartass.”

Phoebe sat back assessing him. “How long will you be in town?”

He flashed me a concerned smile. “A day, maybe two. Not long. Just need to go over some business.”

“It’s Thanksgiving soon,” she protested. “Surely, you can stay and celebrate. I’ll cook.”

I shook my head. “No need. There’s a potluck at the rink Kiley’s organized. Will you stay until Thursday?”

He shook his head. “I really can’t. Now, I’m horribly jet-lagged. Let’s get some sleep and talk in the morning, okay?”

Phoebe placed a big smacking kiss on his cheek and tucked him back in on the sofa. “G’night, Dom. Sleep tight.”

But he was already snoring. I knew he’d just come back from New Zealand, so he earned the sleep. He couldn’t sleep on planes for shit.

Steering Phoebe toward the hallway to the bedrooms, I turned out the main lights and walked her to her door.

She lowered her glance to her newly manicured fingernails. “I’m sorry about earlier, Ransom. You had every right to sleep with whomever you want whenever you want. It’s not for me to make you feel like shit about it. I shouldn’t have overreacted like that.”

I pushed a little of the styled hair from her face. “I’m sorry it happened. I’ve regretted it ever since. Not one of my finest moments.”

She nodded biting her lower lip. “We’ve all had those moments. Myself included. But it’s in the past. Time to move forward.”

I growled.

She scoffed. “Ah, yeah. I’m not a virgin. Did you think I was?”

I couldn’t breathe. My chest tightened so fast I lost my breath. We never talked about that.

Huffing, she threw her hand on her hip. “Oh, you did. Well, I’ve dated. I’ve had some experience. And no, I haven’t talked to you about it. You’re a guy. But don’t think for one second you’re the only one who’s had sex, Ransom. You just think about that.” She spun around and slammed the door in my face.

Well, fuck. Now all I could think of was what she would look like under me, on top of me, up against a wall, on my face, and anywhere else I could bury myself in her sweet pussy. Who the fuck needed sleep anyway?
