“You’re my mate. Mydharrin. And now you’ve ruined my only chance to clear my name. I don’t want or need a mate. Especially with everything going on. It’s too dangerous.”

He was hot, but he was crazy. “How haveIruined anything?” I snapped. “I’m the one tied up! You ruined my show, abducted me, and are holding me hostage in a fucking cave. And I’mnotyour mate.”

He snorted and came closer to the hammock. I couldn’t go anywhere, but instead of shrinking back, I made myself relax. He was a big guy, but he didn’t scare me.

I’d dealt with much worse situations in the past.

He leaned down, his face hovering above mine. I held his gaze, swallowing hard. I could see myself reflected in his purple eyes, my gaze tracing the harsh lines of the two mandibles alongside his jaw. I hadn’t taken this close of a look at him until now, and I couldn’t look away.

His neck was thick with ridges and stripes that lead to his broad shoulders. I fought the urge to run my hands over his hard skin.

“I don’t want this either, sugar,” he said. “At least, not with you, of all people.”

That hurt. It shouldn’t matter because I didn’t want him either, but the sting of rejection made me look away.

“You should untie me,” I mumbled.

“If I do, are you going to run away?”

“Yes.”

“Then I can’t untie you. I will not hurt you. And you’re stuck here, anyway. The dust storm has rolled in.”

“And?”

“The dust storm means no one can do anything. We can’t leave here. It’s dangerous.”

“But I have to pee,” I blurted out.

He rolled all of his eyes, shaking his head. “You are ridiculous, human.”

“I’m not lying. I’m going to piss on your hammock if you don’t untie me and let me go. If the storm is happening, then I can’t escape, right?”

It was another standoff, but this time, he seemed to think over my words harder. My expression must have been convincing. Finally, he sighed, coming back to me. He reached down, untying my ankles and my wrists at the same time. I shook them free, my limbs feeling heavy.

“You do have a bathroom here, right?”

“There is another small cavern where there is a pool and a place where you can relieve yourself. I can give you extra clothing if you would like to change out of your costume.”

Hmm. Itwouldbe nice to get out of this clothing. I could already feel a wedgie forming from my glittery bottoms. And I didn’t want to risk losing any crystals on the fabric…

“Fine,” I said.

“Fine,” he grumbled.

I swung my legs to the side and sat up. His back straightened and his arms crossed as I hopped down from the hammock. I wobbled for a second, fighting the urge to wince. My feet ached from being in these boots for so long, but I wouldn’t let him know that.

“Where to, cowboy?”

One of his hands slid around my arm and he tugged me towards the rocky doorway. He pushed me through first and followed behind me, guiding me. I blinked at the absolute darkness, only interrupted by the sliver of light behind us and one to the right. My boots tapped on the cave floor, echoing around us.

“Where are we?” I whispered.

“In the canyons. In my hideout,” he said.

A hideout. Great. Wonderful. That meant that more than likely, no one would find us.

We went past the other room. I could see what appeared to be a kitchen and a workstation.
