My lucky pen.

“Well, that’s good to hear, because I have to say I feel the same way. I meant every word I wrote in that letter, Wade—I really fell in love with you, and I don’t know why it happened, but I’m glad that it did—”

“Callie,” he interjects, locking his eyes with mine. “I am so madly in love with you. You stole my heart from the very start. Nothing about the last three weeks was fake to me.” He pulls my hand to his mouth and gently kisses my finger tips, sending chills down my spine.

“So where do we go from here? I know you mentioned Fiji, but really, Wade, what do we do?”

“Well, that’s a great question.” He leans back in the chair, letting go of my hand. “But I think it depends on where you want us to go. I can fly back to Nashville, and we can just try to be long distance—which is fine. I’m honestly willing to do whatever you want to...”

“But?” I narrow my eyes, already knowing that he’s fixing to spitball something crazy at me—about the same level of crazy as his initial plan of me pretending to be his fiancée.

“See, we dove right off into a fake engagement,” Wade begins, a mischievous look growing on his face. “And I’ve gotten real used to you being my fiancée. Plus, that ring on your left hand was literally made for you. So ... what if I get down on one knee right now, and we do this for real?”

My eyebrows shoot up. “You mean, like actually get engaged?”

“Callie, our relationship has been the most real relationship I’ve ever experienced. You are the first person I’ve ever felt like truly understands who I am. Not only that, but you challenge me, support me, and make me want to be a better man. And ... you’re the first person I’ve ever been with who genuinely believes in me—sometimes more than I believed in myself. You are everything I could have ever dreamed of in a life partner, and there is nobody else I would rather spend my life with.”

“I don’t want to spend another day apart from you, Wade.”

“Me neither. And I know this may seem crazy, but I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life. And let’s be honest, I don’t think I can top that pretty ring that’s already on your finger, Callie, but I’ll happily take it back, and then, maybe in a week or so, I’ll just propose again?”

I burst into laughter, shaking my head. “A week, huh? Isn’t that a little quick?”

“Oh, come on,” Wade teases, reaching across and grabbing my hand again. “Would you tell me no?”

I study his face, waiting a few seconds to answer what my heart already knows. “Of course not. It’s been a resounding yes since the day I met you.”

“There she is.” Wade leans across the table, gently pulling me across to him, planting his lips on mine. My body floods with heat at the long-awaited contact, my lips instantly parting for him. Greedily, he deepens the kiss, threading his fingers through my hair, holding me to him for a few long intense moments.

I force myself to break free a few seconds later, panting. “We’re in public, Wade.” I laugh, my cheeks feeling flushed at the way his eyes are darkening toward me.

“I know, I know. I’m sorry.” He pulls away, breathless before his eyes land on my laptop. “You know, I’ve been meaning to ask you, how’s your book coming along?”

“It’s nearly half-way finished, actually.”

“Do you have a working title for it?”

“I do ... but if you wanna see it, it’s gonna cost you.” I smirk.

Wade wiggles his eyebrows. “Name your price, Spicy Callie.”

I can’t help but giggle as I turn the laptop toward him.

He reads it and his eyes go a mile wide.

Fake Fiancé at First Sight.

“Oh, Callie, You are too clever,” he says, his voice low and husky. “Now come give me another kiss, dangit. I have no problem making a scene with you—I want the whole world to know you’re mine.”

I bite my lip, inhaling deeply as the tension builds between us. “Ah, what the heck,” I mumble, leaning across and grabbing him to kiss him all over again. He chuckles into my mouth.

I’m definitely keeping the ring.
