“I’m sorry.”

She halts right at the door and spins around at me. I stumble to a stop before I bump into her.

She lifts her brows with her eyes so wide that her eyeballs may fall out of the sockets. I swallow; nothing good is coming my way.

“Silvia, I’m tired of hearing that. You’re already under-qualified for the job and I don’t even see your attempt at fixing that. So, I’m not very regretful to tell you this. You don’t have to come back tomorrow. Get out of your uniform, pick up your stuff, and leave.”

Wait, what?

“But!”

“But what? I’ve heard enough of your excuses. Maybe you can get a job in a burger place where they’ll hire anyone with hands and have no standard at all.” She snorts. “I told you, get changed and leave. Don’t make me call the security on you.”

I drop my gaze and nod. “Thank you for giving me a chance.”

She heads to the restaurant again. We didn’t even get into her office like she said we were to. Guess she doesn’t even want to talk to me and thinks that I’m not deserving.

I take off my name tag and drag my legs to the staff changing room. Guess this job doesn’t go well again. If I hadn’t agreed to work this shift, maybe I wouldn’t have gotten fired. I can do fairly well when there are fewer customers and when things are less busy. Maybe I’m still a bit too new to this place.

But...

She would rather fire me on the busiest day instead of letting me stay for the rest of my shift. Maybe I’m not the best, but I...

I sigh and open the door of the changing room, praying that no one is there to see how much of a failure I am.

There’s no one there. At least that’s a bit better than nothing.

I take off my uniform and change back into my own clothes. Back home, everyone will be there for dinner and they will ask what happened. When they know that I got fired, they’ll be mad at me.

I rub the corner of my eyes, wiping away a few tears. Then will be the forever question from Grandma: she will ask when I’ll start dating someone, which is part of why I’d rather be working through the evening instead.

I put on my shoes after I put the work uniform into the bucket for clothes ready to be washed. This will be the last time I’m here. I’m such a failure...

Outside, no one’s there. I walk out of the door, closing it behind me. I remain staring at the door, which I won’t see again.

Fine, if they don’t want me, I’ll go work somewhere else. I’m not that bad of an employee, I’m just new.

I storm my way to the lobby, which... When I’m in jeans and a T-shirt, this high-class hotel makes me look tiny. Maybe I really don’t fit here.

I take in a deep breath and head to the door. Maybe there are beings looking at me. This place serves high-end beings with money I’d never had in my life. Such a snobbish place.

“Ouch!” I slam into something and it hurts.

I hear a low growl. I take a step back to see the gray being in the expensive-looking suit. I probably bumped into him, but he should know better than to stand in my way.

Fuck this, how many beings can I bump into within an hour?

He glares at me. My heart skips a beat. He’s a lot taller and larger than me. Maybe I should apologize.

“Well, sorry about that.” I try my best, but my voice shivers, and I sound like I’m about to cry, which may or may not be the reality.

He sighs. “Looks like both of us aren’t having the best day.”

“What happened to you?” I’m not interested, but it feels more polite to ask. Now that I take a look at him closely, he is the one in the restaurant when I messed up.

He shrugs. “The hotel mixed up my booking, and I don’t have a room for the night.”

Oh... That sounds bad. Usually, in this city, it’s hard to get another hotel room on short notice.
