“Aironell?” She kept gazing into his eyes wishing he would see what she couldn’t put into words. She felt his arms around her, squeeze, ever so slightly. “You’re cute when you’re mad.”

She detected the faintest smirk. She would have been glad to see him getting those negative thoughts out of his mind, except that she didn’t find his comment funny.

“Let me go.”

“Do youreallywant that?” Alzerion asked. His lips parted, slightly, as he rubbed his left-hand fingers along the curved neckline on her back. His other hand pulled her in even more, leaving no gap between them.

Aironell gulped. “It’s too hard to stay angry with you.”

“Good.” His warm breath tickled her nose. Alzerion sounded like himself again. So confident. A moment went by and she just couldn’t wait. So, she took matters into her own hands.

Aironell pulled her hands up and slowly rubbed the back of her hand down his face, resting near his mouth. Her eyes locked onto his lips. She leaned her head closer and pushed her lips against his. It was a light peck. She started to pull away, for a breath, when she felt Alzerion’s hands grasp her back and pull her back in. She barely took a breath as he bit her lower lip. She cupped his chin. The kissing continued in a rhythm of quick nips of the lip followed by a crushing force of his lips against hers. Her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. When he nibbled at her lip, she gasped for her breath.

“Are you alright?” Alzerion panted. His eyes lingered until she nodded. He cleared his throat and then licked his lips. “I’m sorry about that. I, um, got a bit carried aw—”

Aironell placed her finger over his lips. “Don’t apologize. If I didn’t want you to kiss me I wouldn’t have let you.”

His smirk covered his face. This time Alzerion grabbed her face and smashed his lips into hers. She had no words. She felt like she was melting into him. Words couldn’t do it justice. She felt the pull of her necklace tugging closer to Alzerion. She quickly glanced down between kisses and saw that their two half-heart necklaces connected. Then sparks emanated to the sky. Alzerion pulled away for a second. The sparks stopped. Aironell pulled him back in and continued kissing, and the sparks continued.

Meanwhile, Warren was on the hunt for Alzerion. He was nowhere to be found in town, so he figured he would search his secret sanctuary. Warren made it to the outskirts of town and saw him. He saw Alzerion. His face turned gaunt. What did he do?He knew Ulbrick would be furious, but he had to tell him. He feared Ulbrick’s wrath more than anything. Warren turned his back and headed to Ulbrick. He found Ulbrick in the planning room amidst the piles of papers.

“Ah, Warren, any news I should know about?”

Warren gulped. He knew he was about to cross a line. “Actually, I do have some news. I don’t think you’re going to like it very much.”

“What kind of news?” Ulbrick snapped. His voice sounded even more grating than usual.

“I saw Alzerion kissing Princess Aironell.”

“No! Grr!” Ulbrick knocked over the closest pile of books.

Warren gulped. “There’s more. There were sparks.”

Ulbrick turned his cold stare on him. “Warren, I don’t need the details.”

Warren sighed. “No. Notsparks. I’m talking like fireworks in the sky.”

Ulbrick started pacing and muttering stuff that sounded like gibberish. “I’m sorry I don’t follow.” Warren shook his head.

Ulbrick plopped himself in a chair and waved for Warren to sit. Warren hesitated, but did as he was instructed.

“That means the necklace is becoming like one.”

Warren scratched at his chin. “Huh?

“The necklace that Alzerion wears is special. It has magical properties, and it appears that Aironell has the other half. If he chooses her, and I mean truly chooses her, then we are going to take quite a loss. That necklace is powerful.”

Warren saw the veins on Ulbrick’s hands bulge, as he tightened his grip on the chair. “What do we do?” Warren’s tone was a bit sharp.

“Well, there is only one thing to do, and that is to tell Aironell about Alzerion.” Ulbrick patted Warren on the arm. “When she finds out, she will be so angry. Hell, she might not even trust him. With love severed then Alzerion might finally side with us.”

“That just might work,” Warren admitted. He saw the evil grin plastered on Ulbrick’s face. “But don’t you think that is a bit harsh?”

“Don’t tell me that you’re going soft on me now, are you?”

“Of course not, sir.” Warren clenched his jaw.

“Good, then you know what to do. I’m counting on you.”
